My Christian faith says that gutting USAID and the NIH puts this administration in direct conflict with the very faith they claim to uphold. So much of Jesus’ ministry was about feeding and healing people!

This is a very helpful thread, and a good explanation of why so many of us in the church are concerned about this Christian Nationalism movement.

Laughing in front of cages designed to hold migrants and refugees, many of whom came to this country fleeing extreme violence and poverty, and hoping to raise their children in a more compassionate country. And many of whom followed all the legal procedures to enter the country.

Actually what Americans just saw today was a prominent Republican US Senator announce he is quitting because he knows this budget is going to hurt millions of people and he was repeatedly threatened by the president and his cult for telling the truth about it.

Was literally reading Kagan’s piece when the Iran bombing news was announced. Woe is us.

These are not serious people.

Perhaps the intent is to indict the ethical standards of 70% of white evangelicals. They are certainly an outlier among American Christians in this regard, and supply a good bit of Trump’s support.

Indeed it does.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.

Perhaps the 65%+ of Americans who are not fully onboard with what’s happening with our vulnerable neighbors might take heed here.

In its simplest terms, the apparent demise of USAID is the result of the world's richest man ending a program that helps millions of poor people. You don't need a Ph.D. in moral theology to see why this is an evil. You can just read Jesus's parables on the rich and the poor.
