I have lots of questions. Really interested in what other bakery related recipes as well as carrot cake there are. Is there an English translation? Are there any sponge style recipes or pound cake recipes?

Do we know what all the foods are? Some of them look like baked.

I am struck by the parallels with the DUP β€˜fleg’ protests on Belfast City council. Lots of hot air and a complete waste of time.

I think it really depends on the total weight of your mincemeat mixture. A recipe by T Williams 1797 calls for 1 pint (568mls) of brandy to 15.5lbs (7.03kgs) of mincemeat. I check some other 17th & 18th c cookery books and see if there is any variation. Hope this helps.

Was his bullying the result of his experience during the war or was he like many men of his time just like that? There was so much lost and repressed human potential from that time. I wonder what people will think in 80 years time looking back at today. How much wasted human potential they will see?

Tom that generation were born and raised during some tumultuous times -WW1, Great Depression. And then they had to live through WW2. I think some people were greatly affected even damaged by this sort of stuff and with some it was the making of them and it gave them the inspiration to do good things
