I'm a primary school teacher, book blogger and avid reader of children's books. Would love to connect with people who want to chat about children's books and education.

The lovely folk at #UsborneBooks have given me a copy of the brilliant #TheHouseWithChickenLegs by Sophie Anderson to #Giveaway to celebrate publishing its upcoming sequel.

My son is doing a refugees topic at school, which led to a great discussion round the dinner table about the books weβve all read, at home and at school, that taught us about the refugee experience. What books would you add to the list?

So many great suggestions in the thread. Iβd say Lubna and the Pebble and Journey. β€οΈ

25.01.2026 18:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hope youβre feeling better. Bit of an older recommendation but Iβve just read it later- A Murder Most Unladylike by Robin Stevens.
25.01.2026 18:32 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0The Year of Reading 2026 has commenced so Iβve added my voice to the chat with a monthly blog. Recommendations, teacher ideas and resources. Probably nothing groundbreaking but hopefully thereβs something useful tomsbookcorner.wordpress.com/2026/01/17/t...

18.01.2026 12:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Here are my favourite reads of 2025! Posted in Jan like last year. Six brilliant middle grade offerings from some spectacular story tellers and some of my mediocre poetry! tomsbookcorner.wordpress.com/2026/01/10/2...
10.01.2026 19:45 β π 20 π 8 π¬ 3 π 1I havenβt yet but definitely will soon! Thatβs good to know.

03.01.2026 14:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Book cover for Go-Man: Champion of Earth by Hamish Steele which I got for my son in Neill Cameronβs recommendation but weβre also reading in the #LetsTalkGraphicNovels book group as our first read of the new year.
Book cover for Hari Kumar: Ultimate Superstar by Rashmi Sirdeshpande and Mamta Singh which Iβm really looking forward to reading when it comes out later in the year.
Book cover for The Dad Trap by Ian Eagleton which I managed to pick up on my Boxing Day bookshop trip and was my last read of 2025. It deals so sensitively and authentically with a number of issues, including divorce, neurodivergence, homophobia, friendship and mental health struggles whilst still managing to be hilarious and super-readable. Great stuff.
Book cover for Donut Squad: Make a Mess by Neill Cameron. My pre-order for this arrived the other day but was immediately stolen by my youngest. I very much look forward reading it when I can steal it back!
I think a gentle start to a new year of #KidsBooksFriday is in order. Did anyone (or the kids in your lives) get any good books over Christmas or is there anything youβre particularly looking forward to reading in 2026? My suggestions in the photos / captions.

Yes, I was lucky enough to get a book voucher. So I bought A Murder Most Unladylike, The Secrets of a Sun King, Alice with a Why and a few adult books too! ππ
03.01.2026 14:48 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0I always think of it that way too. There are so many great books it's impossible to read them all when they come out. I also like knowing I can read the next one sooner.

I think #KidsBooksFriday might need a wee break for the next couple of weeks.
So letβs use this week to celebrate our favourite kids book reads of 2025. Doesnβt need to be something published this year.
Hope everyoneβs bookish wishes come true this Christmas!ππ π

I think my favourites have been the second Whisperwicks book and Dracula and Daughters by Emma Carroll.

I'd probably recommend the Time Key series by @mglnrd.bsky.social. The second in the series The Legend of Viking Thunder was released a couple of months ago and it's brilliant. So starting with Hunt for the Golden Scarab and then moving onto the sequel.

I'm excited to be a Reading Champion for @booksfortopics.bsky.socialβs #BookFriday campaign on Nov 28th!
This is a celebration of the best books in our schools & libraries. My recommendation is Ice Apprentices by Jacob North
There's a FREE resource kit for schools too! Link in the next post!
