My lab, at Karolinska, in Stockholm, is looking for a PhD student with a computational/quantitative background to work on probabilistic/generative models of proteins (structure and sequence). The research will involve methods development, and applications in vaccine design.

Today @natmedicine.bsky.social published our study showing the older individuals born prior to 1968 have more antibodies that cross-react to #H5N1 relative to younger individuals. If H5N1 causes a pandemic, children will likely be the most susceptible. 1/2

Our latest study by PhD student #RomainGailleton shows that upon #influenza infection, #Bcell can respond rapidly by forming ectopic #GerminalCenter within the nasal tissue.

Here's our latest work on proteome profiling of self-sampled dried blood spots to gain insights into the heterogeneity of the immune response against infections and vaccinations. We enrolled random citizens by postal mail to learn more about the molecular effects beyond those seeking medical care.

Polymerase mutations underlie adaptation of H5N1 influenza virus to dairy cattle and other mammals. Really proud to share our preprint describing early adaptation of H5N1 to US dairy cattle, and showing how these mutations enhance the ability of the virus to infect other mammals, such as pigs and humans.

A good place to start might be for the NIH (and other funders) to start their own set of non-profit, open access, peer-reviewed journals and mandate that funded work is published there.
