week and flug outside on the surface of the moon, flug asks week "come live with me in my burrow", week responds "what?" not hearing flug, Flug repeats "Come live with me in my burrow" the text being slightly stretched out to indicate them being louder. Week, now understanding what flug said says "Ok."

Text says: Suicide and abuse at fashion factory supplying Under Armour and Columbia

INVESTIGATION A young woman allegedly in forced labour at a clothes factory in Jordan killed herself while making products for the global fashion brands, i has discovered

The sportswear giants Under Armour and Columbia have been hit by claims of forced labour in a factory making their clothes, after systemic abuse and exploitation allegedly led to a worker’s death by suicide, i can exclusively reveal.

The two companies have launched urgent inquiries over the death of a young Bangladeshi woman at a major supplier’s facility in Jordan, uncovered by a months-long investigation.

American Eagle, a major retailer with more than 1,000 stores in the US, admitted that it also uses the site and is taking remedial action.

Tureza Akter, 21, died in her dormitory in November last year, just over a month after arriving at the Fine Apparel site in the city of Zarqa, about 10 miles north-east of the capital, Amman. It is run by Needle Craft, a major Jordan-based clothes manufacturing company.

Ms Akter is said to have been fined many times for missing excessive targets. She was abused by a supervisor hours before she died, an official report states.

Sources say that migrant labourers are tricked into “dehumanising” 16-hour days in the factory for less money than promised, while bosses intimidate them and withhold their passports.

Sexual harassment is also said to be common. Members of the largely female workforce are apparently solicited by staff for sex and made to strip in front of managers.

The factory owners have launched an independent review and say they are supporting Ms Akter’s family after her “tragic” death.

i began its investigation after being alerted by Labour Behind the Label. The British campaign group, which lobbies for workers’ rights in the fashion industry, called the findings “horrifying and shameful”.

We should have a larger convo about how companies like American Eagle use beautiful people to add glamor to unglamorous products. In 2023, a young Bangladeshi woman committed suicide at a factory that made American Eagle clothes bc of abuse. This is the cost of cheap, trendy clothes.

I like using Good On You (an app) to search for ethical fashion brands. It can be a pain in the ass to avoid fast fashion but better a few minutes of searching than supporting sweatshops.

The real surprise came after the experiment. Fred Lambert, who writes for the blog Electrek, pointed out the same autopilot disengagement that the NHTSA had documented. “Autopilot appears to automatically disengage a fraction of a second before the impact as the crash becomes inevitable,” Lambert noted.

In a horrifying article about the dangers of Teslas, one point stands out: Teslas automatically disengage self-driving mode <1 second before an imminent crash--not enough time for the driver to react, but enough for Tesla to deny responsibility for fatal crashes, since self-driving "wasn't engaged."

Longest speaking filibuster ever was 24 hours, 18 minutes by Strom Thurmond in opposition to the Civil Rights Act of 1957.

In a few hours, that record will be shattered by Sen. Cory Booker, a Black man, laying out the case for saving democracy from an aspiring despot.

Hi! Quick note: The Onion accidentally posted a stock photo from a vendor with an AI generated image in it. We pulled the post down once we found that out. Our commitment to not using AI is very real. It's in the union contract to disclose it if we ever do. World is a slop minefield and we're sorry.

A 4 panel comic

The first two panels are titled “Blocking someone on Twitter”

Panel 1: Blue guy holding a door open. Red guy stands in the doorway

Panel 2: Blue guy slams door on Red guy, however the door has large glass panels, so Red Guy can still keep watching Blue guy like an absolute pervert.

The second two panels are titled “Blocking someone on Bluesky”

Panel 3: The Blue guy is reaching down and picking up a large piece of machinery. The red guy watches him.

Panel 4: The large piece of machinery is revealed to be a shoulder mounted nuclear cannon. Blue Guy uses the cannon to blast Red guy completely out of existence.

To me the cool thing about this image is that the sprinkling of blue stars are in the foreground, some 5 million light years away, while all those gorgeous colorful swirly galaxies are almost unimaginably more distant, out in the far depths of the cosmos. More info: www.stsci.edu/contents/med...
