Image: Dorset Landscape with Evening Sky, John Everett (1876–1949), Dorset Museum & Art Gallery.
It was a very cold evening & the East wind was as thin as glass. Look, Wolf, look at the sky over the Downs, said Pine Marten, the clouds look so strange. They're called Lamenters, said Wolf, torn clouds, strife-tellers, come a long way they have to bring their warnings.

A drawing of a dark, atmospheric forest scene. The central focus is a winding, narrow path leading into a misty, yellowish light in the distance. The path is framed by the dark, gnarled trunks and bare branches of trees that arch overhead, creating a tunnel-like effect. At the end of the tunnel is the shadow of a figure that almost seems to have antlers from the branches.

Just read that David Pinner, author of RITUAL, died on Christmas Eve. RITUAL famously inspired THE WICKER MAN.

This is the lovely Nigel Farage. The photographer gave him a message before he went to support the Boxing Day hunt.
He’d hate it if people shared this and signed the petition for a proper ban on fox hunting - protectthewild.org.uk/our-campaign...

Merry Christmas to all the shed folk. The Nortivity looks to be a very professional production this year. I will have a rare venture onto Insta tomorrow morning and catch up. This will set my Christmas Day up very nicely. As I say I expect utter professionalism for Norty and co 😆 🎄

One of my first oil paintings from 1996 of Avebury where I went to primary school. Being there had a profound influence on my work.

I visited the Downland exhibition at @wiltshiremuseum.bsky.social yesterday. Wonderful works of art that would appeal to any discerning Stone Clubber. It got my brain fuzzing with new ideas, very inspiring.

The Third Window. Five and twenty past four and Miss Rabbit and Grey Brock were settling down to tea. It was already dark outside and Miss Rabbit had lit the oil lamps and the little candles in the holly wreath which shone merrily in the dark parlour. It was the first time the two friends had sat down together since the beginning of Advent, and so they had made a little more effort than was usual with their repast.
There were crumpets dripping with butter, a tall cottage loaf, half a green Cheshire round, a large Dorset apple cake and a small Plantagenet Pear cake, both served with yellow scalded cream, piping-hot cheese croquettes straight from the range, jars of tomato chutney and piccalilli, and a heart-shaped box of Fuller's assorted chocolates Miss Rabbit had been saving for a special occasion.
Afterwards, they sat by the fire and talked about their doings – Grey Brock's carpentry and odd jobs and Miss Rabbit's catering, and then about the coming weeks and Christmas itself, which glittered on the horizon, full of warmth and light and companionship – for little more is needed when the larder is full, one's health is robust, and kind and stalwart friends are near.

Black and white aerial photograph showing fields and woodland in the landscape around Liddington hillfort, seen top centre.
An aerial photo of Liddington hillfort in our collectons inspired artist and archaeologist Rose Ferraby to create two prints now in our exhibition - Liddington in Winter / Summer. Different layers of paint in the print created different effects. #HillfortsWednesday

Striking lines and textures at Brightwell Barrow back in late summer. The recently tilled earth meets the stubble field, all watched over by the gentle glow of the Belt of Venus on the horizon. A perfect end to the day. #BeltOfVenus #LandscapePhotography #Sunset
