In my opinion we as the nation either need to increase the DoD's budget to modernize the force or accept a less capable force for the cost of the budget we have.

For comparison we bid, built and delivered 803 KC-135s in 12 years compared to the F-35 w/15 yrs of R&D & 20 yrs proc for ~1300 aircraft.

We have three options in we don't modernize the department, we trickle all these out over years and decades dealing with annual cost increases (due to inflation etc), or we accelerate through the procurement phase and get to the much cheaper sustainment phase of a program.

Fencing the national debt discussion off. The DoD is in a 1930s or 1950s modernization era. We have the B-21, F-47, F-35, F-15EX, Sentinel, Columbia, Ford Carrierers, new Amphibs, new space constellations, CCAs, munitions, plus our tanker and airlift fleets will need replaced in the next 2 decades.

First car was a '99 Accord, great cars
