There are times when the Internet doesn’t disappoint me. This is one of those times. I can’t take credit for this one, and the link that goes to the other site is “broken”. So, thank you, random Internet stranger for making my day because THIS is exactly what came to mind.

All this to say, that if it was this hard to replace cards that had already been issued to me once, imagine how hard it would have been had I not had transportation or a job. People don’t get that.

Long and short, once the Social Security card came in the mail, I was able to go to the DMV for a new license, but I was incredibly lucky for this to have

1. Happened over the summer. Both my parents were teachers and were off and able to drive me around the county to get proper ID

My driver’s license. Which I didn’t have. I was almost in tears. I explained the situation and asked if there were any other forms of ID they accepted. Turns out, that while a birth certificate wasn’t good enough for the DMV, it WAS good enough for the SSA. (Continued)

They needed my Social Security card or a gun license. I didn’t have a gun license so I headed to the local Social Security office to get a new card, only to be told that they needed my license to issue me a new card. (Continued)

Let me tell you a story:

When I was 17, I lost my wallet. It had both my driver’s license and my Social Security card in it. I took my birth certificate to the DMV to try to get a new license only to be told that my birth certificate was NOT a valid form of ID. (Continued in replies)

Dad once asked him about what language he dreamed in and basically it amounted to that when he first arrived in the U.S. , he dreamed almost completely in German but the longer he spoke English, the more he dreamed in English, though still occasionally in German.

It wouldn’t surprise me with that particular teacher. He always gave me the impression that he knew about way more than Trig and Calculus.

He also used to work with my dad back when dad taught in WV. Did you know he was an “off the boat” German immigrant?
