Slavonian grebe just inside my #pwc2026 10km patch on @ivoryg.bsky.social local spot.

The thermal camera providing a bit more insight into what goes on in the adjacent field after dark. Lots of teal feeding, mallard, something looking a bit bigger (shelduck perhaps) a heron, plus fox and roe deer.

Reading this article from Josh Jones has me thinking a recent hybrid in the ldv associating with Barnacles is a "North Holland Goose", a hybrid between cackling goose and barnacle goose.

A scaup still at North Duffield Carrs, 2nd calendar year drake I think. Showed nicely in front of Geoff Smith hide.

Knot, Spot Redshank and Little Gull hanging out just a few hundred meters outside my #PWC026 patch. Hoping they wander in before moving on.

So good it was worth buying twice. I really recommend this book if you have an interest in the birds of the @ldvnnr.bsky.social

LDV birding continues to be really good this year. I didn't manage to see the Slavonian grebe today but did find a Drake Smew at Thorganby along with an interesting hybrid goose.

Cracking goose flock to go through this morning on Ellerton ings. Thousands of pink feet, with white-fronted and Bean geese to pick out amongst them. Merlin nearby as well. What a place the LDV is.

Jean was also a key member of our Corncrake team last summer, attending all of the releases and helping with ringing, colour-ringing and DNA swabbing of the chicks before release - all whilst also finding time to be a trustee for the Friends of the #LDV 👏

Drake Greater Scaup at North Duffield Carrs this afternoon.

I was swotting up on Lesser Scaup (photo) at Slimbridge this morning. Called in at North Duffield on my way home to try and find one. There was a drake Greater Scaup there which got my pulse up for a moment.

A Raven over Wheldrake ings this morning was nice for #PWC2026 as it's a bird I can easily miss throughout the year, although they definitely seem more regular these days.

White -tailed Eagle new for my #PWC2026 10Km radius list. Hoping it makes it onto my patch list.

Last year I chose not to keep any year/ patch lists. This year I'm going to give the #PWC2026 a go. Off to a decent start with Jack Snipe next to the garden, and snipe.

Aside from the content, which will be fascinating, this is also a beautifully produced, quality hardback book. A steal at this price, I ordered 2.

The wet field next to the garden is pretty reliable for woodcock in winter. At least 3 in there this evening.

Derwent Hunt trespasses again at Chafer Wood nature reserve | Yorkshire Wildlife Trust On the 15th November, the Derwent Hunt once again trespassed into our Chafer Wood nature reserve near Ebberston.

Such a tranquil place and a haven for wildlife. This should not be happening. Please repost :-)

Thanks to the great team @ldvnnr.bsky.social for finding me my first YOC area and patch Firecrest. Waited a long, long time to see one. Thankfully, I got brief but much better views than I could capture with the camera😂, as it hopped around the NE base bushes. I'll try again in the morning.

Water level at Bank Island deep enough to keep a Goldeneye and 7 Tufted duck occupied. Access to the hides needs wellies and they will probably be inaccessible in a few hours with rising river.
