It's one of those "anyone can paint this" kind of things which I've never done before so I gave it a shot.

10.02.2026 08:25 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Small watercolor (6"x4.5") using very wet clear water washes with color bleeds to create very abstract self-spreading washes of blues, greens, browns and a touch of red in the lower right. Overall effect might be a landscape of a rolling gold-and-green hillside bordered by olive trees, overlooking a body of water with a deep blue sky beyond and a swatch of white cloud. Maybe or just blobs of colors. Who knows?
I decided to mess around with big wet bleeds of blue, green, and brown, with a little touch of red to see what happened. It's messy and out-of-focus, but it seems to be a landscape. Sorta. I guess I like it... but maybe not. #dailypainting

I was doing the #kdsDailyPainting challenge, but I started to find the subjects a bit annoying, so this was the last one I did. But I like this folding chair made of blonde wood and heavy dark-brown nylon strapping. It's comfortable, too.

Some little blue flowers for fun (and for KCD/KCD2 lead actor Tom McKay, who accidentally let it be known that his favorite colour is light blue.)

Two small watercolors for Kris deBruine's Daily Painting project (#kdsDailyPainting): a turquoise coffee mug and a small mandarin orange, by me. The models for each object are included in the photos above their paintings. Not brilliant, but it's fun.

The upper third of the background is a pale wash of pink and blue indicating early morning; the lower background is a thin wash of several shades of green. 25.01.2026 06:16 β π 17 π 5 π¬ 2 π 0An image of the British cover of Wooing the Witch Queen shows a man in a cloak riding headlong through the night towards an ominous castle with an illuminated, crowned female figure in its doorway and bats flying overhead in the moonlight. A potion vial surrounds that central image and is further framed by leaves and branches. Crows sit on the branches, and a tagline reads: Love can be a witch. A blurb from Sarah Beth Durst reads, 'Absolutely irresistible!' Above and beside the cover is this snippet from the book: Closing her fingers around the pen, she held it up to study from different angles. βWhich end do you write with?β βHere.β Shoving down the old memories before they could take over, he showed her how to remove the cap, revealing a shining steel nib, far sturdier than any hand-carved quill. βWould you care to give it a try?β Scooping up a spare piece of paper, he laid it on a bare section of the table before her. βYou have to use a slightly different angle than you would ordinarily, but...no, thatβs not quiteβhere, let me show you.β Stepping up behind her, he wrapped his right hand gently around hers. He redirected her movements to draw a firm line of ink, his attention wholly focused on instruction as he leaned over her to helpβuntil her warm, lush body shifted with a deep breath against his cloak. He froze, every sense flaming into life with sudden, excruciating awareness. Beneath the quote is an illustration of a fountain pen drawing a curving line of ink.
This week's Friday snippet comes from my fantasy rom-com Wooing the Witch Queen, which is out in paperback here in the UK and in the US, as well as in ebook and (fabulous) audiobook editions!
