Why don't people understand the damage that is done merely by normalizing terrible ideas and policies?

Stop rationalizing everything. Try to see the bigger picture and the longer term consequences. Think about what happens when someone worse gets into power if things have been normalized for them.

In other words, he promised repeatedly during the campaign he had a secret plan to end the war in 24 hours and he was just bullshitting everyone because he doesn’t have the first clue what to do, he gave away all negotiating leverage months ago, and his special envoy is a dope.

While Johnson dithers, wondering not what he could do for his country but what his country might do for him, the Tories must decide how to react; they would be culpable fools to fall for this hollow man a second time. The idea that Johnson is the route to Tory recovery is preposterous. He's the root cause of their current collapse. He broke their brand. He promised to cut immigration only to drive it up by millions. He promised post-Brexit prosperity but made the country poorer. He promised levelling up but couldn't be bothered, so delivered levelling down. He wrecked his party, expelling so many decent principled Tories that his successor was the catastrophic Truss. He pioneered the recklessness she tried to imitate. He modelled deception, charm and carelessness as a route to highest office. His betrayals have deepened the despairing political cynicism that pervades Britain now. The country has been damaged in every way by his legacy.

“Tories would be fools to fall for Boris Johnson again”

Well they are, so they might…

But for the rest of us, it would be like being offered a stinking piece of rubbish that we’d watched them get out of the bin, dust off and put back on the plate.

Forget it.

This is so disappointing. I was the interim CEO of the Runnymede Trust during the global Black Lives Matter protests in 2020. At the same time BME groups were disproportinately dying, and at risk from covid-19 virus. So many reports and evidence re: racial inequities yet we have barely made a dent.

"Vaccination has probably saved more lives and is better researched than most, if not all, aspects of healthcare. RFK Jr could set this back and be responsible for the death and disability of myriads of people, particularly children”

So if it's a trade choice between:

a) chlorinated chicken, plastic cheese, nasty chocolate and

b) European food, beer & wine...

...I confess, I have a strong preference for the latter.
