I always think of this when people try to speak up for AI even a little....

I’ve said it before, but I don’t feel threatened by AI. My writing shits all over anything “generated” by some useless hack, and I only write for clients who value good work over cheap anti-work.

“You’ll get left behind!” Bitch, I left AI in the dust before it was even a thing.

The point of the AI project is to provoke despair in creative people. They haven’t produced profits or anything anyone wants, just a steady stream of articles about how us artistic types can’t do the thing we’re already doing, making art. Jokes on them, we’re even better at despair than they are.

An opinion I pretty firmly hold is that everyone should make a song, paint a painting, act in something, and write a book even if all of those things end up being objectively terrible

I think every tech person should be forced into years of studio art or writing workshops. You have to hear a 19yo who doesn't know shit say your creative non-fiction essay needed "less sentences", if only so you learn how to hear dumb shit without exploding. But you also learn what feedback is good.
