I wonder though, do you make guarentees that two equal strings will always give the same key? Or is there a chance that two threads interning at the same time might just produce a duplicate key (although it doesn't matter too much since you can always defer to the real value)

Oh wow! I remember making one a while ago and I pretty much just ended up mutex-ing the entire storage (which was probably terrible for performance!), cool to see that you're using actual concurrent datastructures (including one of your own).
