Education researcher interested in the education workforce, working conditions in schools, teacher retention and student engagement. Wondering about the place of relational and care work in schooling arrangements and policies.

A crisis of trust in the classroom (opinion) The work of teaching has never been harder, Seth C. Bruggeman writes.

"Students do not know how to read. A majority of my students were unable to reliably discern key concepts and big-picture meaning from, say, a 20-page essay written for an educated though nonspecialist audience." www.insidehighered.com/opinion/view...

Thanks ACEL Vic for the honour of presenting the Patron's Oration last night. It was great to share some thoughts on the need for more activist dispositions in order to propel the needed transformation of schooling.

This paper has surpassed 25k reads in just about 11 & half months!
(Pretty good for an academic article, & a 1st for me!). It prompted many teachers to email stories of manosphere-driven sexism😒; & a few trolls whose gripe was solely β€˜stop telling it like it is’ πŸ™ƒ

Principals and teachers are working hard to educate students in public schools, but they're being asked to do too much with too little.

@albomp.bsky.social must back them with full funding, so that every student is supported with the resources they need to thrive. #auspol

@abcnews.go.com.web.brid.gy - how about a future "What if Wednesday" segment asked, "What if Australia's media supported a positive sentiment about Australia's incredible, hard working teachers?" Time to talk about the positive impacts on teachers work and teacher retention that would result!!

What If Wednesday: What if we banned teachers from using AI in school reports? - ABC listen Today on 774 ABC Radio Melbourne Drive, What If Wednesday tackled the question: What if we banned teachers from using AI in school reports?

Catching up on @ABCMelbourne's "Should we BAN teachers from using AI?" illustrative of damaging narrative about teaching & disrespect for the profession. 😣
Shouldn't we respect highly trained & expert teachers to use tools appropriately to do a great job everyday for students & families?

As my eldest sits his final school exam, I’m grateful to the fine teachers who helped me parent him | Ranjana Srivastava Polite, obedient and diligent, my son is the product of three government schools. I wish him success and satisfaction

This is a beautiful article about government education, written by the oncologist and columnist Ranjana Srivastava. She says that her polite, obedient and diligent Yr 12 son is the "product of three government schools" 😭 So moving.
