As someone who has worked on things for a 501c3, you have to be careful about how much take in vs expenses unless you had an acceptable way to deal with it. If you didn't, you would lose your tax exempt status.

See, where I am from, non-profit has a stricter meaning. Anything they take in that isn't needed to pay for cost of operation must either be used for their stated purpose or donated to another non-profit.

When they're charging far more than many for-profit entities, you have to question things.
