The depth of the shame of a country this wealthy and abundant allowing its people to go hungry is impossible to measure. The fact that a handful of people could fix this by paying their fair share of taxes while still remaining obscenely wealthy makes it even worse.

We did something like that, but it was swiftly banned.

Everyone gets a plastic spoon with another student’s name on it, and then you try to tag that person with the spoon. When you tag someone, you get their current spoon/target. Lots of cross-grade shenanigans, sneaking, running, plotting, etc. Very friendly competition. Absolutely adorable.

Is Spoon Wars or Spoon Assassins a thing at your kids’ high schools? As an observer, I think it’s a goddamn delight. Less AI; more spoons!

Every so often I find myself working on unrelated projects that have name overlaps. I seem to always be working w at least two Mikes or two Jacks, but there were the Gayle/Gail months, and the challenging period of the three Garys, etc. Today, a fun new era just started: my first and second Ursulas!

In researching college admissions, I keep seeing kids screaming that their non-AI personal essays are being flagged as AI…by AI. HELLO YES THIS IS THE PROBLEM

High school admissions person to students: “Don’t use AI to fill out your application questions. Because we do use AI to check for that.” 😐

When a chatbot gets something wrong, it’s not because it made an error. It’s because on that roll of the dice, it happened to string together a group of words that, when read by a human, represents something false. But it was working entirely as designed. It was supposed to make a sentence & it did.

I think any story about Trump's autocracy should be mostly about the people and institutions who failed to stop it. This guy isn't a political genius, everything else just happens to be rotten. 'Toddler Consolidates Power In Household' is a story about incompetent parents, not shrewd maneuvering
