MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alberto Castañeda Mondragón says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance. But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain. He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friend’s car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again. He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

When the U.S. Supreme Court said that you could detain people based on their race, their accent, or the language they spoke… there is nothing to preclude ICE from doing that while you’re standing in line getting ready to cast a ballot.

I get the sentiments here and agree “the worst of us have been handed all the power”. But it’s not that those people were “wrong”. They were 💯 right along with Sanders: they just lied to Americans in order to wrestle the prosperity and power meant for the people solely for themselves.

Can we force this into a ballot proposition initiative? I heard an officer saying because it was not law and was essentially an executive order by Newsom LAPD policy could disregard it. Can’t we force it in via a prop?

Absolutely infuriating that even when we in California change the law to do things like ban ice agents from hiding their identity, wearing masks, and operating as a secret force we are sidestepped by an all too willing and complicit LAPD chief who won’t enforce the policy empowering ICE further.

They’re also beholden to AIPAC which I would argue has a much larger interest in 1) keeping Trump in office and 2) exporting and normalizing their brutal tactics to other countries to divert Americans demands and attention on Gaza.

On Tuesday in Minnesota, a lawyer made headlines — including at Law Dork — for her shocking statement in court representing that government that the “system sucks.” On Wednesday, the transcript made clear that it wasn’t just Julie Le — an inexperienced litigator who was on a detail from her job at the Department of Homeland Security to help with the increased caseload resulting from Operation Metro Surge — who said a lot that matters on Tuesday. It is an unfathomable exercise to read lawyers and a federal judge discussing at length the ways in which the rule of law is slipping through our nation’s fingers, but it is an absolutely necessary document to read for anyone who wants to protect the rule of law — and America.

The claim in this vid that these are “pro protestors & agitators” is 💯 absurd AND incredibly dangerous.

A paid agitator is not a citizen in a military operation, they’re the enemy. You can’t kill a citizen but an enemy combatant is fair game. The word smithing here is vital for Dems to understand.

We need to be prepared for the other side to continue escalating the violence until they are restrained, de-armed, prosecuted, and are no longer capable of doing so. We don’t have the luxury of assuming the moves of an injured animal backed into a corner.
