The emphasis is so often skewed towards the Cass Review and so rarely towards changes made in other countries that have expressly rejected the Cass Review and adopted an informed consent model, considering *this* to be best practice.

Thanks for the perspective, that's definitely an important factor!

Maybe I should pivot to health psychology. My heart lies with psychoanalytic thought, but I'm not sure how long it will take for me to have the bandwidth to treat the population I want to treat. Or if I ever will, to be honest.

Yes, unfortunately. And usually fully booked or not taking on patients with eating disorders :/

In the meanwhile, I'll just continue my search for a psychodynamic therapist, lol

Just met with part of the CBT-E treatment team. They were open to my experiences and seem to be less dogmatic than the people at the previous place, so I'm cautiously optimistic that they'll help me figure out what helps and what doesn't.

Low motivation sounds like a convenient excuse, tbh. Instead, I would argue that exploring reflective capacity (as something both relational AND state-based) would be much more effective.

When faced with a lack of progress, the advice is often to engage in motivational interviewing. My question is: why not try to figure out whether there is enough capacity for (self-)reflection first?

It's hard not to feel bitter at people finally becoming somewhat cognisant of reality, knowing how many people have already suffered and died.

Parallels I drew to Nazism were shot down as "too extreme".

As my family's Cassandra, I was always told "things won't escalate, surely" in regard to the rise of fascism.

For a cohort that fairly consistently smirks and eye rolls in response to our concerns, the power we appear to have over them, to make them agree with things they would never otherwise agree with, is quite something.

We’re reminded that Nazis got and retained power, not because they had magic propaganda or because they hid their crimes, but because a significant part of the population wanted them to have power.

Sigh. What exactly do they think the unconscious holds, lol. Some psychoanalysts are so driven by the desire to separate themselves from "trauma-informed" therapy that they end up overcorrecting, or so it seems.

23.01.2026 15:31 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I'm honestly perplexed. I know these kinds of people exist, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around it, considering the absolute wealth of fundamental psychoanalytic literature engaging with symptoms of trauma, lol.
