Low motivation sounds like a convenient excuse, tbh. Instead, I would argue that exploring reflective capacity (as something both relational AND state-based) would be much more effective.

When faced with a lack of progress, the advice is often to engage in motivational interviewing. My question is: why not try to figure out whether there is enough capacity for (self-)reflection first?

I'm honestly perplexed. I know these kinds of people exist, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around it, considering the absolute wealth of fundamental psychoanalytic literature engaging with symptoms of trauma, lol.
