'Morning Julian @hool415.bsky.social
I'm a #visitor today. Wouldn't be my first choice but I'm looking forward to having a knee that bends! This is a 'live' one...

Photo: A black-appearing cat sits in a patch of light on the right, staring straight ahead. The remainder of the photo fades to black, with the exception of an illuminated window on the left, which throws light onto the subject.

Today’s installment of #spooktober is in memory of S., a dear companion who is sadly gone, nearly 1.5 yrs now. She wasn’t actually black, but she indulged me in this photoshoot. #bnw

Indulgent? No. Shocking? Yes, but in a very good way. This is superb, suspenseful writing. Great work, Rachel! πŸ€―πŸ†πŸŒ

Evening @hool415.bsky.social and #PromptCombo #visitor friends. Here is a shockingly indulgent piece about an unwanted visitor. Sorry it’s a long one!

πŸ™ and for taking some daring liberties in doing so. 😁

Many thanks, also for reposting! πŸ™πŸ˜Š The credit ultimately lies with Annensky.

Many thanks @hool415.bsky.social for a great #PromptCombo #Visitor. Here's a something from a few years back about visiting my Mum in her final weeks

Many thanks, David, also for reposting. πŸ™πŸ˜Š The credit really lies with Annensky, though I took some liberties in the adaptation. Yes, the way it touches on that disconnection is precisely why I chose to adapt it.

Well worth the (relative) length! By turns, unsettling & hilarious! That second stanza, in particular. Great work, Sue! πŸ˜…πŸ†πŸŒ

For #PromptCombo #Visitor with most-nominated-ever host @hool415.bsky.social a poem I don't think I've posted before (Ju will know), which only got its temporary title this morning, and is, for me, remarkably long. Will catch up with others later.

Many thanks, Sue! πŸ™πŸ˜Š I've taken considerable liberties in parts with the adaptation, but in that final stanza I've stayed pretty close to the original Annensky.

Congratulations! This piece is superb - from the deft ambiguity of "offices" in the first line to the depiction of a scene that suggests a deathbed vision in the final one. πŸ†πŸ™πŸŒ

City Church. A poem by Paul Connolly, first published in Wildfire Words

City Church
Walled in both sides by offices, this Church's
blown candle pollens and Inti monstrance dredged
the lost me up easily, made those pledged
Nevers and Noes crassly proleptic urges

here. Strained to eastward, mumbling, a dark cassock
pipes a sudden wild deaf octave at Mary’s
indulgence, while a sallow father’s keys
shiver down a side-aisle and he unlocks

the booth that baffles spoken sins.
                                                         This squeezed
one-storey aperture hence conjures a room
upstairs, whitewashed, where an older priest looks
at sun-glit flooded pasture, horses, and the sea.

Very pleasant to discover on #NationalPoetryDay that I've got a poem with a recording published in Wildfire Words.City Church. I've posted the text below. The link to the WW page is in the chat. A few ecclesiastical #characters here
