11.08.2025 19:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Canary Laughter; the word as far away as dappled- golden sunlit creek. Something to cram into your mouth like ripened black- berries and jam and cream. Something so honeyed, something that as a child you never knew the hunger of what its loss would mean. How parched a tongue on August days that lolls like wind chimes down your throat, that curls around a canary bell and cannot help but peal away on the wings of southwest winds silent into a distant land where you could have been everything, even dawn-light, even sea.

Experimenting with brevity rather than my usual word heavy stuff.
Laconic, lapidary, and very poignant. Those last 3-4 lines are a gut-punch. πππͺΆπ«

I'm away this week so sharing a poem from my upcoming collection about home, the sea and the #maori creation story for #PromptCombo #Mariner, thanks Paul @thewombwellrainbow.bsky.social

Poem as Competent Nineteenth Century Merchant Mariner This poem is able to Chock a Block, make a mat or splice a rope. This poem is a rope block heaved to its full extent. Full up, no room for any more. When the two blocks of this poem's tackle meet it will prevent any more purchase being gained Keep cargo from a shift in the dark hold This poem is a rope yarn mat used to fasten upon outside of exposed parts of standing rigging exposed to friction of yards, bolt-ropes of sails, or other ropes. This poem splices rope twists words wrapped into sentences that strengthen when tautened by meaning.
Thank you, Fidel @dragonslayerma.bsky.social for last week's #promptcombo. All are welcome to contribute. Please use hashtags #promptcombo #Mariner for this week:

Indo-European core Collapsing particles of Perception into Waves that rise from the sun-glazed Pontic-Caspian Steppe. Proto-tongue uncleaving Sound from the constricting mouth Of thingness. Ceaseless- Motion patterns that arise, Peak, decay, dissolve. Kurgans in the Yamnaya Heartland swelling into booms That billow abroad - Breaching Caucasus, Hindu Kush, Horse Latitude, Tian Shan, Zagros, Ararat; Shoals on Hittite plateaus that Surf-scour Hellespont. 10.08.2025 10:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0A poem about womanhood and girlhood
A river flowing through dense trees, lit by afternoon sun. The scene holds quiet defiance, ancestral memory, and the motion of women who carry forgotten languages.
A mural of a woman in a yellow hat and black-and-white floral coat painted on a bright blue wall in downtown Philadelphia, Buildings and a streetlamp are visible nearby.
A woman and child walk down a sunlit sidewalk past chairs, buckets, and a playhouse. Their steps echo quiet defiance, everyday memory, and the rhythm of inherited language.
