Tariff checks
Medical insurance checks

Here let me pretend to write you off a check instead of helping to actively do anything to solve problems as they become more intractable.

I really feel like HBO or a streaming platform needs to pick up the rights to this show.

It would do an enormous amount of good to the relative uptightness of American culture.

Mitochondria being the powerhouse of the cell is cool and all but I think classes like "How to calm the fuck down as an adult in a healthy non self-destructive way 101" is something that should also be taught before graduation

I experienced an earlier analog version of this psychosis with a coworker about 5 years ago, who told me he was investing in crypto because the value was all based on the miners being able to 'unlock new mathematical theories.'

(For the record, I tried to convince him he was mistaken, to no avail.)

It's an extremely roundabout way to say 'pre-existing conditions', so you know, penalizing people for -- existing.

Let’s talk about sedition and treason, because the most powerful yet inadequate man in the world is having a tantrum about it, and his soulless, spineless sycophants are boosting his message.

Buying up businesses and saddling them with debt so you can cash out and bankrupt them is just a fancier form of looting and theft.

"Nobody is questioning why we are consuming so much more electricity."

Alot of us have, and alot of us have been heavily critical on the crypto and AI spaces for churning through massive electrical demand to perform borderline useless tasks and passing their costs on residential ratepayers.

If your church is turning away people who show up to your doors in good faith, you don't have a church. You have a very expensive book club with scarcely any wine.

Illustration by David Macaulay from "The Motel of Mysteries". The archeologist assistant is wearing "ceremonial jewels" taken from the "chamber" (different bathroom items). It is a parody of a famous photograph of Sophie Schliemann wearing ancient jewels (a big no-no btw, don't do that)

I think that most archaeology and history students are aware of "The Motel of Mysteries", a 1979 satirical book made by David Macaulay, set in the far future, in which an amateur archaeologist finds a preserved american motel room, but without any other context believes it to be a burial chamber.
