If a building has been used *continuously* for a nonconforming use since before the code was enacted, that is allowed to continue. There are some student co-ops in town like that. But otherwise the UDC applies.

In practical terms this stuff is enforced through mandatory rental inspections.

I think you might misunderstand what the UDC does. The UDC isn't just about structural specifications, it defines "permitted uses". Occupancy by more than 4 unrelated adults is not a permitted use.

Yeah Ann Arbor has that too and it is absolutely enforced. Maximum of 4 unrelated adults per household in R1 and R2 zones.

It's ridiculous. I mean um ... you know that meme from Always Sunny with Charlie Day frantically explaining his Pepe Silvia conspiracy theory in front of a giant wall where he's taped up a bunch of papers and drawn red lines everywhere? It's basically that. I mean I guess if you're vision-impaired then that might not be a helpful reference but I'm having trouble coming up with anything better, sorry.

And folks... seriously, do actually click through and have a look at this slide deck. It's utterly deranged. Like, this proposed governance model - that's more complicated and confusing than our actual municipal government - FOR A SINGLE PARKING LOT.

The glossy mailpiece that arrived today from the Library Green Conservancy that conflates A/B with the CLUP is so disgusting. I am furious but don't know how to counteract their disinformation. The depravity of those people knows no bounds. Sorry, but I just had to rant. #a2council

In 2018, we promised voters we would fund a park on the library lot without taxpayer dollars. Instead, we spent our 501c3's money on mailers opposing proposals that'd fund the park for free. Here's why it's everyone else's fault that the parking lot has remained desolate and uninviting. #a2council

If there's one place we should build a big expensive pedestrian overpass, it's across the AARR tracks to connect between State and Industrial. (I mean I'd honestly be happy with an at-grade crossing there too, but MDOT and AARR are unlikely to allow it)
