No matter how well intentioned, we need far better mobility alternatives to free most in USA from car dependency. Walking, biking, and transit have not done the job - at least in suburbia where over 200 million of US live.

We should be asking deep questions about the best | fastest way to end automobile dependency - in both dense urban and more suburban areas.

Record leap in CO2 fuels fears of accelerating global heating
CO2 in air hit new high last year, with scientists concerned natural land and ocean carbon sinks are weakening
Itβs like humanity is in a car - hurling down the highway at 80 mph towards a cement wall it will hit - but the crash will happen in 10+ years - and we see it happening in slow motion. And we can lessen the crash (and a lot of death + destruction if we act fast: www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Stop buying gasoline. Get into *Passing Gas*. Walk and bike more. Drive electric, take transit, e-bikes, golf carts, maybe some taxis. Carpool. Live close to work. Stop buying gas if you donβt likes companies - as I donβt.

A lot of things need to change, and they can. It will happen faster imo - if every βentityβ that wants to rapidly advance beyond automobile dependency in USA - find a way to work better together. Maybe starting a big coalition (or *GOalition*)

Or donβt understand the difference between a subject matter expert (SME) opinion writer, and an opinion writer, and a reporter. A SME might have understood how that first Apple computer in a wood box would lead to the iPhone, where a reporter would have knot.

Here is 90% of people in USA - going to work ALONE in their (oversized) car. But canβt have fast 50 lb e-bikes. We should make people at for all the space they waste with their car in our communities

The space we need for better bikes lanes can be found in the empty seats of the oversized cars. 90% of people in USA go alone to work in a car. Very complicated to address, but not impossible

A 3-ton SUV with bad brakes carries tons more (often fatal) kinetic energy than a 50-lb e-bike β yet weβre talking of regulating local vehicles, not the beast. We should better manage oversized car use. Letβs build respect and space for lighter, slower, more sustainable ways to move. We can do it.

Kinda like the long term data on bus riders. If the rider has to make only 1 transfer on their trip - ridership drops 50%.

What do the first Robotaxis remind you of? They remind me of the first personal computers. I believe they are going to develop in ways few can imagine. And I hope they enable us to move past automobile dependency -soon, and transform our car-centric communities into people-centered Villages :)

I hope more people come to think like you. Iβve been waiting for decades for carsharing companies to market a βlocal carβ bundle with their βfar carsβ, highway-capable and can be rented by the hour. The small local cars can get you to the Far Car rental hub or pod location easily. Still waiting :(

As a USA resident who cares deeply about reducing crashes, reducing CO2 emissions, greatly lowering oneβs mobility costs, seeing far more active modes used, creating people-centered communities, and putting parking and street space to better use; I want to see robotaxis thrive.

Sure, just like how hundreds of little robots zip around (within an inch) of each other in an Amazon fulfillment center - Never CRASHING once! Computers already control vehicles better than humans - and expect them to get even way better.

Apt-sized shared AVs offer to reduce the price of mobility by 8X, vastly reduce land for mobility and emissions, shape thriving communities and see vastly more people use active modes. This is only how I see this future - as a mobility Designer - working on car options for 40 years

Oddly you are a fan of NEVs and LSVs but can only imagine AVs as full-size vehicles.

I created the first NEV (GEM), with production start in 1995. I write a lot about how we can build on this start in my book Near to Far (on Amazon). Itβs time for apt sized sensible mobility and seamless mobility options :)

You can buy a 3-wheel Arcimoto that has a top speed of 70 mph, which offers no more protection than a NEV or LSV. Reasonable βLocal Carβ regs would help the USA in a major way. If only those that seek smart + sensible mobility actually worked together - a lot would be possible
