Thinking about what Charlie Sheen said in his documentary, he wasn't paying for the sex, he was paying for the girls to leave afterwards. These men don't want the relationship or any kind of responsibility to anybody else

Biodiversity collapse threatens UK security, intelligence chiefs warn Ecosystem destruction will increase food shortages, disorder and mass migration, with effects already being felt

You mayโ€™ve seen coverage of a new report on the threat to national security from environmental collapse.

A common response thatโ€™s got my goat is: โ€œLook, itโ€™s not just tree-hugging enviros saying this, itโ€™s hard-nosed spooks!โ€

A short thread on why this framing is bad history & bad politics๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜‰

How much does this PM 2.5 pollution have to do with wood fire burners? I was very surprised watching 'Selling Manhattan' how many luxury apartments came with fireplaces, how can they not know how bad they are for air quality? And how is it fire safe in an apartment? #airpollutionkills

How screen time affects toddlers: โ€˜Weโ€™re losing a big part of being humanโ€™ In the UK, 98% of two-year-olds watch screens on a typical day, on average for more than two hours โ€“ and almost 40% of three- to five-year-olds use social media. Could this lead to alarming outcomes?

"19% of children aged three to five had their own mobile phone in 2024, and that 37% of children this age โ€“ more than 800,000 kids โ€“ were using at least one social media app, up from 29% in 2023" www.theguardian.com/society/2026...

How Wall Street Turned Its Back on Climate Change

I published This Changes Everything: Capitalism vs. the Climate in 2014. Lots of serious people explained that we didn't have time to tackle capitalism, climate was too important. Let the market fix it for us.

The track record is 12 wasted years and a world on fire. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/17/c...

Wood Is Not a Carbon-Neutral Energy Source Treating it as such โ€“ and supporting it with subsidies, as the UK and many other EU member states do โ€“ is a flawed path to climate action.

Burning wood damages our #Climate.

๐Ÿ‘ Planting a new tree is great but...
๐Ÿ‘Ž ...it takes decades of growth before that new tree is mature enough to absorb the carbon emitted from the one burnt last night.

Changed out mechanical ventilation filters today after 3 and a half months of them being in. The inlet filter (LHS) is black with soot from wood fire burners that our neighbours use, and worryingly the exit filter (RHS) is also still fairly dirty :( #dontburnwherewebreathe #airpollutionkills

Yes absolutely be up in arms about this and ALSO stop using your wood fire burners (unless they are your only source of heat) as burning solid fuels creates more fine particle pollution PM 2.5 than burning liquid fuels and so wood is the most polluting fuel bar coal #dontburnwherewebreathe

Heat map of annual excess deaths per 100k people per year from illnesses rellated to fine particulates and ozone with the effects of fine particulates and ozone from fossil fuels removed. The map is much lighter almost everywhere, with the remaining dark regions centered in desert areas with lots of non-human-caused fine particulates in the air.

Fine-particulate and ozone air pollution from fossil fuels causes 4-6 million avoidable deaths per year: 7-10% of all deaths worldwide. At an ~$11 million statistical value of life, this is a 44-66 trillion $/yr (38-56% of ~117 T$/yr global GDP) cost that appears nowhere in fossil fuel economics.
