Teachers are supposed to be mentors but in this climate, they have to earn your trust. Not the other way around. For teachers, our students are our immediate community. It is our actual job to teach them how to protect themselves through knowledge. When you betray that trust, no one can learn.

Marginalized Students: do not trust your teachers with your status or your gender unless you are absolutely positive that you can trust them to help or protect you or that they are vetted by other marginalized students. Teachers may mean well but their executive bosses may not be.

If you have students who are trans no you don’t. If you have students of color who may be affected by ICE no you don’t. If anyone asks you gender or racial the makeup of your class you don’t have to tell them.

Protect your class and protect your students by not complying in advance. They trust you.

Some of what Trump is attempting to do is unlawful, but some of his shadier maneuvers will likely be supported by the courts. SCOTUS is on his side. I don't say this to discourage people, but as a reminder that the law cannot be our bottom line. Our obligation is to each other, not the law.

Yall I've noticed a huge drop in alt-text usage for images popping up on my feed. Please use alt text to:

- include vision impaired people

- include people with bad connections

- get better engagement since more people can access your posts and many folks don't reskeet images lacking alt text

The CDC are adjusting COVID isolation guidance not because there's been a change in the science, but because of pressure from CEOs and politicians. This is malpractice and will only increase misinformation and mistrust.

It's pathetic the CDC is justifying weakening their guidance because "no one is following them."

Weak guidance doesn't lead to better public health. It endorses anti-public health behavior.

There are many people who can't afford to take days off work even when they are ill. The CDC should be recommending that employers give workers paid sick leave, not making it easier for bosses to exploit workers by saying it's fine to work when you are sick.
