There was a bent railing between the paddock and the end that I used to squeeze through. Oh to be that thin again

Wow, I missed that our book 'One Day' has been shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal for Illustration because of Benjamin Phillips's wonderful artwork.

My photo collage shows four hippo statuettes made of Egytian blue faience, a ceramic material made of ground quartz. Their bright-blue shiny bodies are decorated in black with depictions of Nile river plants such as water weed and lotus flowers. This decoration depicts their marsh habitat as well as having various layers of symbolism associated with regeneration. For example lotus flowers open in the morning and close at night, symbolising rebirth. Blue faience hippos have been found in Middle Kingdom tombs of high ranking officials. Itโ€™s thought they were placed in the tombs to aid the rebirth of the deceased.

Hippo top left - Walking hippo shown in profile facing right. Height 11.5 cm, Length 21 cm. Egyptian Museum, Cairo.

Top right - Roaring hippo (looks like the hippo is smiling), seated, with head at left and turned inwards to front. Height 7.5 cm, length 12.5 cm. Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek, Copenhagen.

Bottom left - Standing hippo in profile facing right. This hippo is part of the Met Museumโ€™s collections and is popularly known as โ€˜Williamโ€™. Height 11.2 cm, Length 20 cm

Bottom Right - Reclining hippo with head on the right, facing front, and tilted down. Egyptian Museum, Cairo

Iโ€™ve just announced Iโ€™ll be leading a National Emergency Briefing on 27 November . At a time when climate is in free fall on the political agenda , itโ€™s vital our leaders realise what is at stake if we do not accelerate a just , green transition for all .

I worked harder on this book than any before it. My ex-publisher then failed to pay me what they owed me for it & did their best to ruin its chances of survival. That robbed me of a year of my life & ruined my health.

After all that, to see reviews like this one brings me close to tears too.

I have white ones, in a little vase. Did buy a poppy years ago, when conscripts were still alive, but now its peace pledge ones. ( Doesn't apply to football.)

...if you listen to the full interview with Amorim, and not take things out of context, he said we were better, he was gratified the fans thought we were better though he wanted to see much more improvement.

They are improving; still not enough end product on shots, or total cohesion at the back, and we're lacking in the middle! However, goalkeeper is 100% better, Mbueno is brilliant and has slotted right in, Maguire got his confidence back and Yporo's good, and Amad is a warrior...

You wouldnt agree with me if I said owt lad. He was everywhere, dragging players about, getting into decent positions. Thought DeLigt and Mbuemo very solid too.

Isidor should've kicked Gabriel properly.

Might be a decent player but whinges endlessly at the officials and goes down like that all the time.

Yes, he's the current least favourite player.

Being from the UK and a member of the late part of Generation X means having to live with the fact that every photo from your childhood resembles a still from a cultishly acclaimed but commercially disappointing folk horror film.

Not much prospect of walking around West Kirby Marine Lake this morning, well without getting very wet feet anyway, due to the very high tide๐ŸŒŠ, so retreated to Ashton Park instead, to enjoy the autumn colours. ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿƒ

I find such comments to be discourteous, disrespectful, and unwarranted.
