Itโs so depressing that ECPAT & Missing People are once again needing to raise the alarm over trafficked and unaccompanied children going missing from care in the U.K. Theyโve been highlighting this problem for years and itโs such a serious safeguarding issue.
25.11.2025 13:14 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Fresh data in this new study Until Harm Ends shows that despite previous recommendations, significant gaps remain in the protection and support offered to these children.

The report follows up on the first study, Heading Back to Harm (which discovered that an alarmingly high number of children go missing from care with many never being found), and the second and third study, Still in Harmโs Way and When Harm Remains which confirmed these findings.
24.11.2025 08:15 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0In 2024, 37% of trafficked children and 13% of unaccompanied children living in care went missing.

A new report from ECPAT UK and Missing People shows that more than 2,000 trafficked and/or unaccompanied children went missing from care in the UK in 2024. These children are at particularly high risk of exploitation and other types of harm when missing.

We analysed new data which shows that the pilot scheme transferring decisions of child victims of trafficking from central government to local authorities has been positive, yet gaps remain for children outside of pilot areas as well as those deemed not admissible.

Inconsistent definitions of child exploitation are undermining the identification and protection of children who were exploited in forms such as sexual, labour and criminal exploitation, or domestic servitude.

Without these changes, the report warns that trafficked children face heightened risks of re-exploitation and instability. The lack of long-term support undermines their recovery, leaving them vulnerable to further harm.
