At our young women’s group, we have been doing yoga sessions to support wellbeing and confidence. During the first session, the group shared empowering quotes with one another.

β€œRespect each other – respect another person, respect yourself.” ✨

The gov’s new asylum plans are the harshest yet.
πŸ›‘ Just 30 months’ leave β€” no long-term security
πŸ›‘ Family reunion blocked β€” loved ones kept apart
πŸ›‘ No duty to support the destitute
πŸ›‘ Safe routes only for workers/students
We know what young people need to rebuild: stability, safety, belonging.

For one week only, every gift to Young Roots will be doubledβ€”meaning twice the impact for young people navigating uncertainty and rebuilding their lives.

πŸ—“οΈ Mark your calendar. One donation. Twice the power. Let’s show up when it counts!

Save the Date: The Big Give is back from 2nd to 9th December! πŸ“£

Right now, young refugees and asylum seekers are facing even greater barriers to safety. With current policies making it harder to find stability, your donation matters more than ever.

Throughout it all, his caseworker provided steady guidanceβ€”helping him understand his rights, stay hopeful, and make informed decisions.

M’s caseworker has been a constant source of support, something he β€œdeeply values.” Today, he’s focused on rebuilding a brighter future.

M faced some of the toughest challenges a young person can experience, from an age dispute to the threat of homelessness. It was, in his words, β€œone of the most difficult chapters in my life.”

He urgently needed legal support.

The government has shut down refugee family reunion β€” turning in effect a β€œtemporary pause” into a permanent ban.

Cruel. Heartless. Inhumane. 🧡

Huge thanks to Baroness Lister for her amendment to the Border Security Bill on the need to reinstate the 56 day move-on period for all newly-granted refugees, and for sharing our evidence from our frontline teams and the views of young people in her speech!

You can hear her talk about concerns about lack of independence from the Home Office, young people's experiences of the process, poor quality decision-making and an absence of oversight and accountability on decisions that have huge consequences for the lives of young people we work with.

Meet MA.

When he arrived in the UK, MA didn’t speak English. He felt completely alone, exhausted from a long, dangerous journey and overwhelmed by a city that felt nothing like home.

Things began to shift when another young person introduced him to Young Roots.

Safe routes mean having a way to reach protection without risking your life. But for many young people, those routes are limited or don’t exist at all. Young Roots stands with young people calling for fair, accessible, and humane pathways to safety.

🧑At Young Roots, young people find trusted relationships, community, and somewhere they can begin to feel like themselves again.

🧑At the Helen Bamber Foundation, survivors are supported to process what they’ve been through and take steps toward healing at their own pace.

This #StressAwarenessWeek we're highlighting what stress really looks like for young people facing displacement.

It’s living with constant uncertainty, about where you’ll stay, who you can trust, and what comes next.

Young people tell us what they’re worried about.
πŸ›‚ Uncertainty around their asylum claim
🏠 Being moved with little notice, unsure where they’ll sleep next
πŸŒ€ Feeling lost in systems they didn’t choose and don’t understand

These are the realities young people share with us every day.

How people seeking asylum are housed is about more than providing shelter. It shows the kind of welcome the UK offers to those seeking refuge. We want people seeking asylum to be welcomed as our neighbours, not warehoused in camps.
