Let's be clear about what happened today.

Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,

denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,

and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.

Populists like Danielle Smith also skip legislative and judicial scrutiny.

Invoking time allocation. And the notwithstanding clause.

Because they can't hack the hard work of liberal democracy.

It's not conservative at all. It's negligently lazy.

An important note…

Smith isn’t just overriding the federal Charter…

She’s also overriding the Alberta Human Rights Act AND the Alberta Bill of Rights she just rewrote.

Because the real issue is that the province never built out municipal school infrastructure to handle the influx of students into Alberta's school system. The province is so far behind that even expedited approval and construction of new schools won't even get us there within the next five years.

Someone needs to ask why private and charter schools are allowed classroom caps? Shouldn’t they be held to the same standards as public schools because they receive public funding?

Alternatively, he could be asked if it would be fine for all public schools to implement their own classroom caps.

That is, of course, unless you're talking about private schools...
