Keeping up with the UCP government's democratic transgressions can be difficult.

But not impossible.

Hereโ€™s a running list since Danielle Smith became premier. ๐Ÿงต๐Ÿ‘‡

Part of a general UCP policy of gutting or defunding (or in some cases both) accountability mechanisms. We see the same thing in access to information where inadequate funding leads to delays & dysfunction as demonstrated by @drewyewchuk.bsky.social in many @ablawg.bsky.social posts.

Showcasing Alberta in the Middle East Premier Smith will promote Albertaโ€™s investment opportunities, energy expertise and agricultural products during meetings in Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

After invoking the notwithstanding clause to bust the teachersโ€™ strike, Danielle Smith appears to have fucked off to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

We can NEVER NORMALIZE THIS as a country. This is a politician seizing power from the courts to pass law that violates our Charter Rights and Freedoms and every single time itโ€™s used it should be reviled and shamed.

Let's be clear about what happened today.

Premier Smith introduced a bill to strip Albertans of Charter rights,

denied MLAs the opportunity to debate it and the courts the ability to scrutinize it,

and did all of this from her seat on a jet to Saudi Arabia.

28.10.2025 00:03 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 326    ๐Ÿ” 250    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 22    ๐Ÿ“Œ 21

Populists like Danielle Smith also skip legislative and judicial scrutiny.

Invoking time allocation. And the notwithstanding clause.

Because they can't hack the hard work of liberal democracy.

It's not conservative at all. It's negligently lazy.

An important noteโ€ฆ

Smith isnโ€™t just overriding the federal Charterโ€ฆ

Sheโ€™s also overriding the Alberta Human Rights Act AND the Alberta Bill of Rights she just rewrote.

Instead of paying teachers fairly and giving kids the classrooms they need.

Because the real issue is that the province never built out municipal school infrastructure to handle the influx of students into Alberta's school system. The province is so far behind that even expedited approval and construction of new schools won't even get us there within the next five years.

Idiots like Yager is think it's okay for private industry to take all the profit & leave Albertans paying for all the damages

But when it comes to funding education & healthcare the UCP will talk about the deficit as though regular Albertans caused the shortfall not giveaways to donors

Someone needs to ask why private and charter schools are allowed classroom caps? Shouldnโ€™t they be held to the same standards as public schools because they receive public funding?

Alternatively, he could be asked if it would be fine for all public schools to implement their own classroom caps.

That is, of course, unless you're talking about private schools...

Then it becomes one of the most important things that the Alberta Government recommends parents pay attention to while choosing a private school.

ANALYSIS | Alberta stopped tracking class sizes. Then it changed its funding formula. Now, it's a teachers' strike issue | CBC News Get a rough idea of how much Albertaโ€™s teaching staff has grown compared to how much student enrolment has grown since the funding formula for school boards was changed.

The Alberta government stopped tracking class sizes, and then the province's population growth really took off. @robsonfletcher.com set out to find out how the numbers of teachers compare to that growth, with the limited info available

Class size/composition is a strike issue.

However, a political scientist is casting doubt on the entire exercise.
