Crazy 2022 poll where people in US asked to estimate % of population in different groups. My favorite result? According to these guesses, 85% of the US are either Muslim, Jewish or Native American. The TOTAL for all three is actually 4%. Oh, and a third of the country is gay/lesbian.

A new chapter for Portland’s long-standing outdoor store, Next Adventure Under a new model of ownership, the Grand and Sandy Next Adventure locations will stay open, but the Scappoose Bay Paddle Center will have its next adventure re-branded as "The Paddle Shack."

Next Adventure, the iconic Oregon outdoor store, is about to begin, well, a new adventure. With the help of investors, the business will stay open with a new ownership model allowing employees and the public to participate.

This 4th of July I will again thank our wiser forefathers, like Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir, who had the wisdom to fight to conserve these incredible resources.

To explore the #OlympicNP is an experience like no other. From high alpine peaks to rainforests and rugged shorelines it is an absolute gem, even when compared to all our other national parks. And oddly, often more accessible to #OregonHC than people in Washington due to a chance of geography.

For someone with such incredible strength, who regularly solo mountaineers and eats multi-day backpacking trips for breakfast, it was a major adjustment to deal with weakness and pain for several years. As her father, I felt so helpless to do anything except but lend an ear.

I was honored to be asked to β€œguide” a friend up Mount Whitney, a first attempt for both of us. We worked together really well and although it was challenging to the extreme, we prepared well, made excellent plans, and demonstrated solid decision-making on the route.

Spring ushers in a narrow window of lush scenery to Oregon’s desert canyons. For about a month, the wet earth and steady sun feeds a diverse ecosystem, with grass at the foundation and bears and wolves at the top of the food pyramid.#OregonHC #PNW

Our poetry, music and art-themed backpacking trip was a great success. We bonded over the challenges and laughed around the campfire at night. Every person was a gem that I would happily travel with again.#OregonHC

Oregon was the first state in the nation that enacted sanctuary laws aimed at preventing farmers and businesses from severely abusing law-abiding but undocumented immigrants by threatening to report them to authorities.
