In light of today’s SCOTUS decision, every person of color with an accent in the US should probably carry proof of citizenship with them at all times - while working and everywhere they go. If you don’t want to be in a detention facility awaiting a friend or relative to bring it.

That Pritzker press conference was... surreal, and I think marks a significant moment of escalation in the constitutional omni-crisis. This was the governor of a state saying plainly the Union itself is being torn apart and his state is being militarily invaded by an authoritarian regime.

We are in very dark times. It’ll take an entire political/social movement, an overwhelming rebuke at the polls, and a new vision of governance to unstick this country from whatever this collapse is.

Just in case it’s not already clear that ICE is a white supremacist thug army, Homeland Security is recruiting with a “defend your culture” slogan.

I graduated from high school in 1999 and if someone asked me to remember basically any individual event, I would be hard-pressed to do so, especially at the level of detail Dion seems to recall it.

Even if he has good intentions, he may have accidentally created a false memory. I notice in the episode, for instance, that Rabia raises whether he said anything about Ramadan and he says "oh yeah, he did." Is that a real memory, or one that was suggested by Rabia?

I am trying to think about what Adnan's detractors will say, and I have a couple of questions. First, why did Dion reach out after 25 years? It seems a little strange. And did Dion remember the details about the day independently, or did Rabia read him the note first?

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.

This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.

It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

This would be illegal and unconstitutional.

This almost certainly means that the other 200 Venezuelans illegally sent to El Salvador are experiencing similar torture.

It is not just about immigrants.

I don’t think people understand how long it will take for us to pull back from the creation of a police state. It could be generations.

I’ve warned about the nativist mind virus for many years. They’d destroy the economy, bankrupt the government, shred the Constitution, trample our freedoms, and imprison their own people to get what they want: not just mass deportation, but something more like ethnic cleansing

Do you really think these people will be satisfied after they manage to kick out millions of undocumented immigrants, close our borders, and end legal immigration? This is an ideological project. White nationalism doesn't care about immigration status. It's about purity and dominance.

If there is a coup in this country, it won’t be the military with guns in the streets, it will be DHS.

Do you want to know how democracy dies? By handing ICE what it needs to kill it.

If the Big Ugly Bill passes, it will precipitate the creation of a police state. ICE will become the largest law enforcement agency in the country. ICE will have vast resources to pursue its terror campaign and build concentration camps.

Reading about these latest SCOTUS rulings really has me thinking that everyone should have worked much harder to prevent Trump from being elected.

So am I reading this court decision correctly? We now have 50 micronations with their own laws interpreting the U.S. Constitution wholly separate from one another? But there's one guy with private law enforcement who is immune from all punishment who can do whatever he wants in those 50 states?

This exactly. This decision means no relief in a broad swath of immigration cases.

Really important to remember that in immigration policy, because of a prior Supreme Court decision, class wide relief is actually NOT allowed against certain types of policies involving immigration enforcement

This is an assault on the Reconstruction Amendments by a Neo-Confederate Court wedded to the far-right argument that those amendments were illegitimate and destroyed the original intent of the Founders, which was to create a white man's country

8 U.S.C. 1252(f) will be a problem for many INA cases, though, right?

If the Supreme Court thinks universal injunctions are unconstitutional, to wait until *now* to say that, in this of all cases, with this of all presidents, is a devastating indictment of both its impartiality and its prudence.

How many U.S. citizens get deported because of this ruling? How many lives disrupted? This is a tragic decision with severe consequences. We should all be ashamed that we have allowed this to happen.
