I'm glad that there finally is a strategy, but it just reminds us all how much devastation has been done to the global health sector and how hard it will be to rebuild the trust that the US generated over the past 30+ years in global health. /fin

Finally, a strategy like this shows just how important institutions are--and how neglected they are in this strategy. We need a strong CDC, WHO, and other institutions to make something like this feasible, and those get little attention (and no restoration of resources) in this strategy.

Fourth, there's a sense of "everything old is new again" in this strategy. What's to suggest that these approaches will work any better this time, especially under an administration that has been actively hostile toward global health programs?

Third, how do you square everything in this plan with the realities of completely gutting the funding and staffing for global health in the US government over the past nine months?

Second, reaching agreements with individual states by April 2026? That seems....optimistic. What sort of groundwork has been laid? The Trump Administration's past promises of lots of agreements in a short amount of time haven't exactly borne fruit.

First, it's striking how the focus on bilateral agreements and not engaging with international organizations mirrors much of the approach that China has taken to global health.

What's in -- and what's missing -- in the new U.S. strategy for global health After months of aid cuts, the State Department has released a 35-page document detailing how it plans to roll out global health assistance. Here's what it says β€” and what the reaction is.

The Trump Administration finally released its global health strategy. A few initial thoughts from me....

Trump admin threatens to rescind federal funds over DEI In a sweeping and unprecedented letter issued over the weekend, the Office for Civil Rights declared race-based scholarships, cultural centers and even graduation ceremonies illegal.

soon enough, the mere presence of black and latino students on campus will be illegal racial discrimination against white students www.insidehighered.com/news/diversi...

Keith Haring died of AIDS aged 31 on 16 Feb 1990.
One of his last works, Unfinished Painting, was deliberately incomplete, reflecting the devastating, unquantifiable loss to the arts due to AIDS.

Trump’s Gutting of Foreign Aid Is a Threat to Global Health In its chaotic first few weeks, one of the new Trump administration’s many targets has been global health.

"Abandoning this leadership position undermines trust in the U.S., on global health and many other issues, and those effects will linger long after Trump is out of office."

Trump Withdraws U.S. from World Health Organization Public health experts say U.S. withdrawal from the W.H.O. would undermine the nation’s standing as a global health leader and make it harder to fight the next pandemic.

Because of course he did. Shortsighted doesn’t even begin to describe this situation. You can’t make something better if you aren’t even at the table.

US membership in the World Health Organization is on the line with Trump’s return If the U.S. withdraws from the global health body, as Trump attempted to do in his first term, the WHO could lose its top government donor.
