Trying to be the adult in the room and to make the world a better place; occasionally failing. Physics, Aberdeen FC, Munro bagging, technology, most sports, rock n roll (IM, DT and Suede mostly), Cambridge. Technology development consultant by day.
I love my C-Class Coupe. So there.
12.09.2025 20:21 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It doesnβt in Dalkeith. Or Edinburgh. Or Fife. Or Aberdeen. Maybe in some select areas of Dundee.
03.04.2025 10:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Er. No it doesnβt.
03.04.2025 01:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You canβt patent fire, only the method for creating it. And the quid pro quo for getting exclusivity to your invention for 20 years is to teach everyone else about it. Seems like a good deal.
08.03.2025 22:20 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm with the meteorologists on this one.
23.02.2025 13:38 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Forgive the straight-laced response, but that's an awesome photo!
15.02.2025 21:33 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0See Great Shelfordβs response to the EWR consultation that makes this point. None of these plans are consistent with each other. Itβs intolerable that weβre being asked to comment on plans that cannot possibly work together and therefore canβt be in the final form.
20.01.2025 11:09 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0I donβt know anyone who can get anywhere close to 1 hp. 746 Watts? Youβre having a laugh.
09.01.2025 06:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I honestly don't think most people give a stuff. BA is changing it's scheme so the people who spend most get the rewards, not those who game the system. Seems reasonable.
08.01.2025 12:59 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haggis is easy to buy all year round. Some butchers have already had that idea. Halls and MacSween's usually.

11.12.2024 20:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Chill. I have a PhD in physics, I really, really do understand these things. Induction is not a new concept.
New and cool technologies come up all the time. Just because they work in the lab, it often (at least 9 times out of 10) doesn't translate to the real world. This is a hard application.
Unless you wired every road, you still need the same batteries in your car for when you arenβt over induction loops.
This is nice in theory, but wholly impractical.
That's just the transfer efficiency at the final stage.
You also need to factor in transmission losses which are considerable. Also there's the sunk carbon of digging up the roads and fitting the cabling, which will also be expensive to repair when they inevitably break. Batteries better.
It's a load of crap most likely drawn by someone who has looked at a map in an office rented by a think tank on Tufton Street. Who gives these people a voice?

23.11.2024 10:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Stable and high-quality management and coaching over several years. Which has been completely absent since McInnes. Hopefully weβve found our happy place now!
23.11.2024 08:39 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Which brings up another challenge: how to avoid being a yo-yo club in Europe. No non-OF club has figured that out yet (see Hearts today). Every good season is succeeded by a bad season, partly due to the demands of playing twice a week for months. We need a much stronger squad to avoid that.
