I was surprised there weren't "Mini Microsoft" style movements at various companies in the 2010s; the pattern seemed super apparent and unhelpful.

Interesting! We also shopped Hyundai and Kia and they did have test-drive vehicles but never in our preferred trim. We did eventually end up with a Volvo EX30 once we finally got to try it.

We had the same experience and I made the same mom/dad-joke... repeatedly. I was asked to stop.

Snarky reply: still super excited for Tailscale 2.0: Hubris Edition at some point.

Non-snarky reply: I remain in awe at Tailscale's focus on polishing and refining the core magic thing. Like auto-update is so so so smooth now; and I never notice any connectivity disruptions in my monitoring. 🀯

Went to a Volvo dealership to test drive EVs a few weeks ago; They had none available for test-drive. Said that most sell out or are spoken for as soon as they arrive. Large lot packed with ICE vehicles though πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

I was 10 and called Toys R Us in St..Catharines, Ontario every day for weeks. Supply chains for new video games were so much worse back then.

As someone who spends a lot time thinking about the values I want to teach my kid (besides PLEASE DON’T EAT DIRT), the thing I keep coming back to is this: I want him to believe that the strongest, bravest thing he can do is give a shit about other peopleβ€”especially ones who aren’t like him at all.

unleashing social media on the world at large was like inflicting smallpox on immunologically naive peoples. Only psyches scarred over by endless stupid flamewars on usenet or IRC were truly ready for it

Musk's 'Funding secured' tweet cost Tesla investors $12 billion, jury told Testimony presented to jurors was aimed at showing that Elon Musk’s August 2018 Twitter posts sent Tesla’s stock on a roller coaster ride that hurt investors who held a variety of positions.

That was during Model 3 production ramp, when Tesla was in serious risk of running out of money. August 2018 is when the infamous "Funding Secured" tweet claiming that he was going to take Tesla private went out: www.latimes.com/business/tec...

Stop what you're doing and read this long thread. It's not just that most people are decent, it's that they're better than that, given the chance. Thank you so much @jenwang.com

I think it’s easier for many American tech workers to claim that H-1B workers are cheaper to hire (they’re not, they cost more due to having to pay for their immigration process and match prevailing wages) than to admit foreign workers are highly qualified to do their jobs.

It’s motivated reasoning
