I asked my sweet delightful 88-year-old patient how she keeps active and she said she plays tenpin bowling, indoor bowling, does a walking group once a week and exercycles at home every evening while watching The Chase!!
(This is more exercise than I do at present. She’s old enough to be my mum!)🥰

The North, it was exactly as I expected, after reading the description in the brochure. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea of course-two young men hiking through the wild of Scotland for just over two hours: conversations, renewing friendship, arguments, silences, wild weather & scenery. Loved it.

Talking about a movie I’d seen & really enjoyed at the British & Irish film Festival at morning teatime, and our newish colleague said “oh God I saw that-it was crap.”

Yep I’ve referred this patient through to WorldwiseTravel, there’s one on the Terrace in Wellington. One of the main issues that you need a full two weeks for the vaccines to give you good coverage, so you’re already on holiday before you’re fully protected….(& rabies is 2 doses, a week apart!)

If you’re going to Southeast Asia in one weeks time (or frankly anywhere else in Asia, Africa, Pacific Islands, South America, Eastern Europe) please don’t pop into your doctors “just to check if I need any travel vaccines” because
1: yes you do
and
2/ no we don’t have time to arrange for you

Why do old blokes think it’s appropriate to tell sexist jokes to the nurse while she’s changing their dressing, removing their sutures, or sticking an injection in their bum? Frankly, not a wise thing to do if somebody’s holding sharp scissors, a blade or a needle close by…..😑

A basic assessment was done (to ensure patient safety) and patient made aware of practice protocol in future. (ie don’t bloody well book an appointment in your child’s when it’s really for you)

Extremely. I was bloody fuming, and I did not hide it!

Just for clarification-when we are very short of appointments, we prioritise children and the elderly into our urgent slots.

… and the parent who books their child into one of our very scarce “urgent” slots when the child isn’t really unwell, & then gives a list of their own (non urgent)
symptoms that they want treated today!
You think you’re so clever, but now someone else’s really sick child misses that urgent spot😡
