I wrote a longer response to this sentiment on my Tumblr when someone asked me what I thought of using AI to generate an outline or finish a scene or write a few paragraphs - I genuinely don’t understand not enjoying the PROCESS of writing and refining!

The only thing less useful than a political action you think is useless is complaining on the internet about that action.

For fuck's sake, just do the thing you want to do! The people you're complaining about won't be convinced by your posts, but they might be convinced by your effective actions.

this thread really isn’t going anywhere but I’m 💀 at the amount of people who will say something regarding “supporting” or “not supporting” a person/philosophy/etc and who don’t seem to understand that personal disagreement ≠ material impact, and the one does not automatically lead to the other

additionally “I (don’t) support X” becomes a useless statement - are you currently boycotting? protesting? raising awareness in your social circles? privately disagreeing? what is support? is it money? moral alignment? personal aesthetics? are you treating your cause like a team or fandom?

and despite claims of anticapitalist philosophy much weight is given to consumption, to purchasing/not purchasing the right things to show loyalty to a cause or ideology. this becomes a problem when anticapitalists try to boycott things without understanding how/why boycotts work as political action

“support” is a nebulous concept with very few ties to real world actions and a disproportionate focus on personal morals over actual material impact, which isn’t to say morals are unimportant (they are obviously) but personal morality ≠ activism with actual successes/consequences

thinking about the concept of “support” as it’s tossed around in leftish online circles and feeling a little bit like we’ve lost the plot because nobody will define what it means and different answers are contradictory and hypocritical, helping no one and confusing everyone. thread, 1/?

I have easily written a million plus words of queer fanfiction, both romance and more general plot-driven fic with romantic subplots and elements. I love fanfic. I enjoy writing it. I think it’s wonderful. But it’s exhausting trying to convince queer fanfic fans to read anything new.

if we ever figure out what it is about M/F fanfic readers that makes them hungry and eager to buy new original M/F romance while queer fanfic readers have to get strapped into a high chair while authors go “here comes the airplane!” about their queer romances, we will legitimately fix publishing.

Between 0-1. I work full time and write in between my other responsibilities and hobbies; if I get 5-7k words in a week I’m very lucky.

because this is the ONLY book in the series with a multi-month timeskip baked into the plot and it’s also at a good “this is the end of part 1” spot. but it’s not my full Book One. hrm.
