73k words in and Iโ€™m like. maybe 25% done with this book. Iโ€™m lucky itโ€™s never getting a print release.

thereโ€™s slow burn romance and then thereโ€™s โ€œone of the MCs doesnโ€™t know the other exists for two whole novels and they spend the third unable to physically touch due to living on separate planes of existence and communicating through astral projectionโ€. why did I choose this? who knows

A jokey ad for my book. On a bed of blood spattered roses white text asks: What does a lesbian bring to a first date?

A. A forty billion dollar dagger
B. A divine debt
C. Trillionaire daddy issues
D. 300,000 clones
E. An impending sense of doom
F. All of the above

If you guessed F, congrats!
You're now a fan of
BOOM GOES THE BRIDE.

I continue to make ill-advised ads that i release late at night because this is my Brand and if you're up at midnight EST then you deserve quality late-night shitpost promos. Why see ads for injury claims lawyers when you can get quality infogayment like this?

idk itโ€™s just very weird that instead of criticizing her for her greed or her soulless pivots toward maximum appeal or her politics what Iโ€™ve personally seen the most of is โ€œbut she doesnโ€™t understand Shakespeare!โ€ be serious. we have real problems here.

05.10.2025 13:52 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

we can maybe accuse her of being self-centered but weโ€™d have to do that for everybody who went โ€œheโ€™s just like me frโ€ about Hamlet, not to mention the countless female artists whoโ€™ve similarly felt kinship with Ophelia and used her in their work. Shakespeareโ€™s plays invite that kind of engagement.

05.10.2025 13:50 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

there are a lot of good criticisms of the latest Taylor Swift album but โ€œshe just doesnโ€™t get Hamletโ€ isnโ€™t one of them - not liking how the story ends isnโ€™t not understanding it, and applying themes from Hamlet to her life is something people do all the time in their own art/writing/music

at the risk of sounding like Iโ€™m going to bat for a billionaire (Iโ€™m not) I think that perhaps we should consider the misogyny in our criticisms of womenโ€™s interpretations of Shakespeare when they donโ€™t sound suitably academic or intelligent but instead engage with his work like any other story

I also think that if you read developmentally appropriate literature and devoured it in one-book-a-day gulps as a kid, transitioning to a harder book as a young adult can freak you out and make you freeze up.

On Tumblr thereโ€™s been an influx of people reading classic lit bc the success of Dracula Daily inspired others to set up mailing lists - Iโ€™ve seen ones for Moby-Dick, Les Mis, Sherlock Holmes, and several Dickens books. IMO youโ€™re right that it helps a long book feel approachable to nervous readers

itโ€™s all William and Maryโ€™s fault. itโ€™s also all Henry VIIIโ€™s fault, but everyone gives him the blame he deserves already.

04.10.2025 14:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Yes, to both. Peri and Virgo are metaphorically haunted by the deaths of their best friends when they were 21, which shattered their partnership and forced an estrangement. Meg, on the other hand, is literally haunted by an exiled faerie king whoโ€™s been waiting for her to notice sheโ€™s not alone.

#QueerWritersChat 1:

Iโ€™m Amara, 1/2 of QueerWritersChat, and Iโ€™m drafting Night Moth, a cozycreepy moth(wo)man sapphic romance!

Iโ€™m just looking forward to the vibes of October and soaking those up for much needed dopamine lol

Hiya #queerwriterschat, I'm Emily! I'm working on planning a YA fantasy superhero novel! (heck of a mouthful)

I'm looking forward to starting that. I'm also looking forward to a couple get-togethers I'm going to and a couple chances to fix some chronic health problems.

04.10.2025 00:11 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 9    ๐Ÿ” 2    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

#QueerWritersChat

Hi everyone! I'm K, and I'm actually getting ready to send off a fantasy prequel short story/novelette to my editor and search for a cover artist!

04.10.2025 00:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 13    ๐Ÿ” 3    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Hi #QueerWritersChat! Iโ€™m Lucille or Lucy, I write fantasy, and Iโ€™m working on what I can only call an adventure/mystery urban f/f romantasy called Blood Ties and Brickways centering around a young woman named Meg as she navigates the faerie Midwest and falls in love with an undead lesbian god-king.

04.10.2025 00:15 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 5    ๐Ÿ” 1    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

In all seriousness, publishers are going to have to figure out how to market books in the post-social-media landscape. That should be an implicit part of their job. What authors/artists can do on their own is increasingly limited and siloed.

it might sound crazy but i actually really like bluesky and enjoy my time here and would like it to be a successful sustainable platform

the series that this story started as a (pointed, frustrated) reply to features bigotry as a plot point but canโ€™t decide what to do with it, and the consequence of being a marginalized person and wanting to write about systems of power = somebody has to talk about fantastic racism and itโ€™s me

03.10.2025 16:12 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

somehow I wound up doing The Big Faerie Racism Infodump before I planned but I think it works. unfortunately talking about The Big Faerie Racism Infodump makes me sound unhinged.

The original concept stemmed from wanting to write a frustrated response to a certain massively popular childrenโ€™s fantasy series, but in addition to English school stories I also took inspiration from Buffy, Charmed, Animorphs, Gemma Doyle, Yu+Me: Dream, yuri anime, and the Elemental Logic series

itโ€™s some kind of law of nature since 2020 that Taylor Swift will come out with a song that is eerily similar to the subject of my current writing project after Iโ€™ve begun working on it. I donโ€™t know what Iโ€™ve done to make this happen but I donโ€™t think itโ€™s going to stop any time soon.

02.10.2025 20:22 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 0    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Itโ€™s literary fiction if cishet neurotypical white men either like it or can no longer successfully argue against it being objectively good. All else is genre.

oh this is definitely a โ€œgood for herโ€ situation, donโ€™t worry! Megโ€™s trouble will be finding a way to get this currently-intangible sort-of-love-interest back into this plane of existence and into a body again, but her presence is a net positive
