Can’t say I blame the Pontiff.

I’m an autistic analytical chemist (a natural combination) and delightful to be around. I love finding magic in the lab on the daily. Nature. Native plant gardening. Habitat restoration. Diamond painting fanatic!

Chair positioned in front of a glass table with diamond painting canvas, “Cherry Blossoms” in progress.
I went to go work on my current canvas, “Cherry Blossoms”, and found this beauty draped in my spot keeping it warm.

That’s my governor and I’m so proud.
Not sure when the last time Illinois could say that - and I’ve been saying it a lot lately.
I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.
18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.
We made this website to tell our story:

Remember when they mocked us for saying that democracy is on the ballot?

It highlights the alarming rate at which Black chemical scientists, especially those from minority backgrounds, are leaving the field. The graphic emphasizes the need for systemic change and showcases the Broadening Horizons program as a pilot initiative to address this issue. It lists key elements of the program, including site visits, mentoring, professional development, and networking, and quantifies its impact with statistics on scholars mentored and industry placements offered. The graphic also includes a quote from a program participant emphasizing its positive impact on their career and sense of belonging.
Broadening horizons: The programme is open to chemical sciences undergraduates, postgraduates and recent graduates in the UK & Ireland from a Black or minority ethnic background.

14 today.
Even on the hardest days where I want nothing more than to just forget, not think, “socialize easier”…….alcohol doesn’t even come to my mind anymore.
For that I am so lucky.
I’ve also figured out that….alcohol never really helped me out with any of that stuff anyways.
I’m AuDHD, so vacillate between both extremes you’ve listed.
If written communication is allowed, make me mute.
God works in mysterious ways?
