Toscano also questions the thesis that fascism seeks the weakening of the state, and with Ruth Wilson Gilmore, suggests to rather look at the ways fascism supports state institutions that support a neoliberal agenda and do so by managing infrastructures of race.

“[A]re we sure that fascism is purely and simply freedom’s other, its absolute negation.”

And in his dialogue with Arendt he observes that fascism might not be simply explained as the attempt to abolish freedom. This analysis prevents us from understanding how fascism instrumentalists freedom for neoliberal agendas and the its libidinal economies.
