News stories should have quality science journalists, and science communicators should be making media capturing the imagination of the general public.

I don't think the 'value of science' is a good enough general goal. I think we need to get better at communicating the findings of science in ways that are intuitive and convincing -not for science in general, but for each finding, and for existing knowledge that isn't wide spread enough.
