One of the coolest things abt being a submission editor for @smokelong.bsky.social is I'm just as excited to see work I spotted in the queue succeed as I am w stories of my own. I fell in love with 2 stories while reading for The Smokey--thrilled they’ll be published in this issue, out next week! 🔥🔥

Definitely! Even now, all the possible names on the list already have a Good Name and Nickname option, lol. Most official of those is the chance of naming Aragorn but calling him Strider or Ranger (little Tolkien nod there). Most likely, I'll name him something and the boys will make up their own.

O. M. G. Looks like a puppy is coming our way, end of June. Now I’m down to that challenge that hits me with every story: what name that fits this little character. We’ve chewed through family names (Fitzgerald, George, Ricky, Jimmy)… right now, Ryder is sticking, but we’ll have to see.

Ah, lol... I wrote orders for judges and legal pleadings in complex litigation cases, and sheeeesh, the contract for this contest is over the top. Someone got paid by the word -- a little ironic for a FLASH contest. Also, that fee is 2x the fee for novel subs. For all these reasons, I'm out.
