How tragic that just two business days into the new year, I find myself having to interrupt internalized ableism and negative self talk about my battered bodymind c/o medical admin burnout thanks to criminal and negligent hospital and insurance systems designed to harm. No, not tragic: how violent.

Imagine how ghoulish you have to be to determine someone’s life (a whole universe!) not even their quality of life but their whole ass life was worth saving $39.57!

Imagine denying the only generic rescue inhaler a patient is able to use, per doctors’ expertise/based on patient’s diagnoses. Twice. @Cigna: I’m so curious! Why do you want me to take a medication my heart cannot tolerate, or nothing? You know asthma’s deadly? Oh right, that’s the whole point!

They are displaced in Deir Al Balah and live in a tent. Hanaa is 8 months pregnant with their third child (a boy!), and is expecting in January. Recently, Ahmed's family has experienced very hard times. He recently lost his father, and found out that their four year old daughter Habeeba is suffering from serious health issues. Ahmed has spent the last year trying to support others in Gaza, delivering money or aid to others in need. He has told me that he feels this is his duty and calling to help others despite trying to support his family under incredibly difficult circumstances.

Huge storm and flooding in NYC today. This is 4th Ave and Carroll St in Brooklyn, which is near Gowanus Canal, a superfund site.

Reminder: Do not go in the flood waters, it contains pathogens and is a threat to human health.

Expected because we’ve had so much rain this month, there’s nowhere for the rain to go. For context: Prior to today’s storm, this was the 13th wettest September in 150 years, and now it’s the 2nd wettest. Of the 13 weekends of summer, 10 saw rain; had storm remnants for 1st weekend of fall as well.

The flood footage coming out of New York City is the latest example of aging infrastructure built for a climate that no longer exists. The spoken urgency for infrastructure modernization needs to be matched by action.
