Can they carry out an extra-judicial killing of an American citizen in the U.S. as long as they claim they are affiliated with a so-called narco-terrorist drug organization? Does affiliation mean you’ve declared war on America and can be killed as an enemy combatant?

Something that's been lost in the discourse (especially with the expedited deportations) was how the administration insisted on skipping due process despite how the president was afforded significantly more due process than most people for many credible and evident abuses of power.

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

People use fascism loosely to speak of that which they dislike, but the term has a meaning. Most reductively: cult of personality; nationalism; eroticized violence, internal enemies, purity myths, politicized gender.

TV Group to Show Anti-Kerry Film on 62 Stations (Published 2004)
It's possible I've been missing mention of this in all the voluminous Jimmy Kimmel coverage but... people are conscious of Sinclair's media-political history, yes? Just seems maybe a teensy bit relevant www.nytimes.com/2004/10/11/p...

The word is, and it's a strong word at that, Jimmy Kimmel is NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes and, shortly thereafter, Fallon will be gone. These are people with absolutely NO TALENT, who were paid Millions of Dollars for, in all cases, destroying what used to be GREAT Television. It's really good to see them go, and I hope I played a major part in it!
Trump Truth Social post, July 22, 2025.
Don't buy the canard that this is about Charlie Kirk. Abusing state power to lean on corporate leaders and get Jimmy Kimmel off the air because he told jokes about the president and made him feel bad was always the plan.

it is really important for news outlets to be clear (unlike the nyt here) that Kimmel was suspended not because of some grassroots backlash but because ABC caved to threats from the head of the FCC

I don't think it's simpering praise. He was an interesting man. I didn't agree with much that he said, but he was interesting and he was growing, and his death is a significant loss for those who believe engagement can help bridge disagreements.
From an Atlantic editor.
I cannot get over how the entire centrist hivemind is attempting to wish into existence a person, and a movement, that does not exist. You are journalists, you are supposed to describe things as they are, not how you want them to be!

Charlie Kirk Was Not Practicing Politics the Right Way
The mainstream media seems entirely uninterested in explaining Charlie Kirk's work.
Mainstream pundits have instantly sanitized and ignored Charlie Kirk's core political project and its impacts. He has been remembered by the mainstream press as someone they merely disagreed with, a debate me-guy whose words and actions had zero consequences:

When Minnesota Democratic State Representative Melissa Hortman was murdered in her home by a gun toting MAGA maniac less than 90 days ago they said nothing. Trump even skipped her funeral and chose to play golf instead. He had the chance to condemn political violent and did not.

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Palestinian boy killed in Gaza aid drop as starvation toll rises to 217
Falling aid pallet crushes 15-year-old Muhannad Zakaria Eid, as more Palestinians, including children, starve to death.
Airdrops of aid in Gaza fall on desperate, hungry civilians and crush them to death. The air drops are not a solution to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. They are a publicity stunt so that Western governments can avoid holding Israel accountable for the blockade.

Bolton’s home raided, Gen. Kruse fired, Epstein coverup proceeds, seizure of 10% of Intel another step towards state capitalism. Just one day in the somewhat chaotic but directionally purposeful march towards…despotism.
Does anyone think they’re doing all this so they can hand over power in 2028?

Trump's Budget Chief Is About To Go Rogue On Massive Spending Cuts
Russ Vought said to expect more massive spending cuts because Trump is "not cowing to a legislative branch’s understanding of its own authorities and powers."
Every day is a good day to contact your Congress-folk and ask them why they repeatedly and willfully give up their power to the executive branch year after year. It's being explicitly thrown in their face now by a lead architect of Project 2025. www.huffpost.com/entry/russ-v...

I will always remember this image for his selfishness. As soon as he's protected by others, the first thing he thinks to do is put on a show despite secret service urging him to stay down or increase the risk of harm to any of them. To me, this photo will always be iconic of his selfishness.
