I knew James too. Dave captures him perfectly. He was funny as hell but kind and decent to his core.
A truly great father, above all. He put a lot of love into this world.

The critic who hated "Taxi Driver" the most had to be Tom Sullivan, who concluded his review with the most blistering insult possible for Martin Scorsese.
It's in the Esquire story below, but not pictured here.
A half-century later, that remark has backfired ...
At the Cannes Film Festival, the jury president broke with tradition by openly denouncing Scorsese's film.
Taxi Driver won the Palme d'Or anyway.
That jury president was Tennessee Williams, who provoked similar outrage throughout his entire writing career. Funny how things change.
Some critics championed it: The New Yorker's Pauline Kael, especially. But also Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times.
Vincent Canby in The New York Times bunted: he couldn't decide if it was good or bad.
Rex Reed, however .... ๐ซฅ
"Scorsese Misses the Mark Again as Director of Taxi Driver"
50 years ago this movie debuted at the Coronet, a single theater on the east side of Manhattan.
This was one of the more amusing reviews. But there are more ...
Iโve been pestering everyone involved in this every chance I get. Finally! ๐คฏ ๐ป

We are all paying the price for Bovino's warped perception of right and wrong.
www.esquire.com/entertainmen...
When Bovino was 11, two formative things happened:
His father killed a woman, plunging their family into despair and chaos.
Then he saw a Jack Nicholson movie that he says made him want to join the border patrolโeven though he hated the film.
Gregory Bovino has been dismissed in disgrace, but history will not forget the Border Patrol commander.
He marched smugly through Minneapolis as ICE ran roughshod over the city in reckless pursuit of the undocumented, killing two protesters and terrorizing a nation.
How did he get this way?

And he saw a Jack Nicholson movie that he says made him want to join the border patrol.
What was in that movieโand how did he get it all wrong?
Those of us who work in comics should never forget what these characters can mean.

There were many stories about Catherine OโHara from the Emmys in September. "She displayed a noticeably leaner frame."
A sad lesson in being more humane. You may not know what someone is really going through.
