The publication was inspired by two events Nina Hall and I organised in 2023. We thank our colleagues who participated in the @isanet.bsky.social 2023 Roundtable and the workshop @johnshopkinssais.bsky.social Bologna (jointly hosted with @gvagrad-ggc.bsky.social).

The collective knowledge the forum contributors draw on in their individual pieces relates to democracies and authoritarian regimes, spanning both the Global North and South and using a range of qualitative and quantitative methods to study advocacy.

We studied advocacy in Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Liberia, Côte d'Ivoire, Bolivia, Guatemala, Australia, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and a host of other countries across a wide range of issue areas.

Nine scholars (Nina^2, Soumita Basu, @sch-ir.bsky.social Laura A. Henry, @peacemedie.bsky.social @lisasundstrom.bsky.social @andreavilan.bsky.social @kellyzvobgo.bsky.social ) illustrate how transnational advocacy still matters for IR.
