Having lived there for 9 years, I know and love many wonderful people who I know are fighting as hard as they can right now to make sure there are better days ahead. I hope there are, for all of our sakes. But it’s enraging and heartbreaking to watch so much waste and destruction and hate take hold.

I tend not to post a lot of reactions to the ongoing erosion of American institutions of political and civic life, because I don’t think I have a lot of insight to offer. But, for what it’s worth, my heart absolutely aches for everyone caught in the grip of this absolute and existential peril.

Trying to leave a voicemail with an arborist and the guy clearly forgot to hang up after recording the greeting. I’ve been listening for five minutes as he gets out of his truck, fires up his chainsaw, chats with a client. I’m invested. Maybe there will be some interpersonal drama later. 🤞
