Seeing Billie Whitelaw in Not I is on my list of things I wish I could travel back in time to see live. (With or without Mikhail)

I am so excited to see The Corpse in Modern Irish Literature make its way out into the world. It's been such a blast to work with my co-editors and all the contributors.

Let nothing be called natural in an age of bloody confusion, ordered disorder, planned caprice, and dehumanised humanity, lest all things be held unalterable!

Moving from academia to public service grants you all kinds of insights (useless to all but a handful of people) like β€œTreasury Board Secretariat is the Reviewer 2 of government”.

Having lived there for 9 years, I know and love many wonderful people who I know are fighting as hard as they can right now to make sure there are better days ahead. I hope there are, for all of our sakes. But it’s enraging and heartbreaking to watch so much waste and destruction and hate take hold.

I tend not to post a lot of reactions to the ongoing erosion of American institutions of political and civic life, because I don’t think I have a lot of insight to offer. But, for what it’s worth, my heart absolutely aches for everyone caught in the grip of this absolute and existential peril.

A traveler from an antique land--great guy--said to me with tears in his eyes "Sir, two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert." And I said wow, that's really something. But we'll be building a big beautiful statue to my hubris and it will stand for eternity

VERSEDLE Test your literary knowledge with Versedle!

I made a lil game inspired by the Wordle universe. It's called Versedle (pronounced Verse-a-dle). You guess who wrote famous lines of literature.

As my parents can attest, it's hard! I made them an Easy Mode, but it's still kinda hard. Maybe you'll like it!

Top advice on teaching creative writing: teach Keats' letter to Leigh Hunt.

"I’ll cavern you, and grotto you, and waterfall you, and wood you, and water you, and immense-rock you, and tremendous-sound you, and solitude you..."

Screen cap of parodic version of William Blake's "The Tyger" that begins:
Tyger! Tyger! Burning bright
(Not sure if I spelled that right)
What immortal hand or eye
Could fashion such a stripy guy?
What the hammer that hath hewn it
Into such a chonky unit?
Did who made the lamb make thee,
Or an external franchisee?

A family friend dropped over some chunks of salmon today and said β€œdon’t mind the little dark patch there, that’s from the SPEAR that caught it”. Excuse me, you mean I could have been spear-fishing salmon this whole time?

Trying to leave a voicemail with an arborist and the guy clearly forgot to hang up after recording the greeting. I’ve been listening for five minutes as he gets out of his truck, fires up his chainsaw, chats with a client. I’m invested. Maybe there will be some interpersonal drama later. 🀞
