One of the left's most frustrating optics failures is its clear obsession with optics. Aside from ultra-leftists, the left self-moderates so much that to be a "communist" amounts to being a liberal who hates themselves for it; for it, we alienate fewer people while attracting almost none.

Another really disturbing tendency I see among liberals is the assumption that full fascism can be defeated by moderate fascism. This is absurd. If we grant fascist premises, why should we not expect fully fascists conclusions to follow?

Easily the most disturbing attitude I see many on the left adopting right now is the idea that fascism can be stopped by not invoking its ire. That's not how fascism works; fascists don't spare the weak but hold them in contempt. Not fighting back only teaches fascists what they can get away with.

Most governments have a policy of not negotiating with terrorists because you don't want to give terrorists an incentive to KEEP doing terrorism. The problem with fascists is that they're terrorists and liberals are ideologically committed to negotiating with these terrorists as often as possible.

The start of a Tumblr post by user "planetarytransformation", reading: so many of the transfems i know spent their time pre-transition performing a kind of lifelong exercise in self-deprivation, the goal of which was to find out exactly how little a person needed to live. they starved themselves, dressed carelessly, shunned friends, and hollowed themselves out so as not to be burdens on anyone but themselves. i see it now, too, in the girls around me. i'll ask if they want care – a home-cooked meal, relaxed company, sex without the expectation of reciprocation – and they say no, no, thank you, i don't need it; what would you like, what do you want, because in their head they're still doing that awful calculus, still training themselves to disappear in the eyes of the people around them.

i don't think i'd have died without transition – not in the conventional sense, at least – but to take that leap, i had to stop thinking of myself as a human experiment in fuel-efficient living and start nurturing the anemic, atrophied flame of desire in my heart. i had to learn to eat well, to exercise, to style myself beautiful, but harder than that, i had to learn to ask the people around me to work on my behalf in order to enrich my life and give me the things i wanted. and i did it; i learned. and it was agony, but courage is a muscle you can train, and every day i get better at accepting gifts with the hungry gratitude i never learned in my years and years as a sad, scared, lonely boy.

America does not have a booming economy. It has the same permadepression but with a bubble on top; a mirage of credit and deregulated finance capital; the same secular stagcline of profit rates from the 70s is still operating. This is why US monopoly capital is flirting with fascist dictatorship.

It frustrates me how liberals, and many leftists, respond to conservative critiques of the direction culture is taking by defending the object of their critique rather than by putting forward a more compelling alternative. Leftists' willingness to defend the cultural status quo is genuinely odd.

They feel uniquely threatened by trans people because simply by existing we render the gendered aspects of their worldview highly suspect, a worldview they've adopted to deal with the existential anxieties of Modernity. Fascists imagine a pre-modern time where things were secure, and we upset that.

Fascists, of course, are not philosophically inclined; far from it, they're anti-intellectual, often seeing their own theoreticians (like Evola) as quaint. This isn't because they disavow philosophical concerns, but because they're deeply fearful of uncertainty. Fascists can't consider alternatives.

Fascists view the existence of trans people as a threat to (cis)women not because we pose a physical threat to their safety; instead, we pose a metaphysical threat. We pollute the concepts of womanhood and manhood, categories upon which the strictly gendered fascist worldview is constructed.

Liberals fail to understand fascism because they regard fascists as misguided, misinformed liberals. They're not really fascists, they've simply failed to become liberals; it's the job of successful liberals to help them. But that isn't the reality. Fascists have alternative, incommensurate values.

In 2003, the UK legalized marital rape, by every measure a greater threat to women than the mere existence of trans people, but we should resist the temptation to attack statements such as Rowling's below as hypocritical. We should instead see them as revealing the speaker's true values.

It's frustrating how many leftists will recognize that marginalized voices have historically forewarned against impending fascist violence more broadly, only to minimize our concerns when we speak up...

Fascists can't appreciate satire of fascism for the same reason radicals can't take movies like 300 seriously. Fascists and radicals have diametrically opposed value frameworks and we interpret art accordingly. Fascists aren't "missing" anything in games like Helldivers 2; they perceive differently.
