Problem (one of them) with xG is we cut through Newcastle at will regularly but didn’t manage to shoot as we played a poor pass or similar. Doesn’t contribute to xG but some amazing opportunities. Means absolutely nothing.

We created enough to win. Combination of poor finishing, a defensive howler and poor refereeing. Play that game another hundred times and we lose very very rarely.

Are we saying the 20/21 year olds in the academy couldn’t go out on loan and earn us some money or bolster our squad? Kaisler-Hayden would’ve got more game time than Garcia (due to injury) for example and could’ve sold for more than £3m?

Time will tell, obviously, but having so much tied up when we have so little wiggle room and a strong youth academy does seem, currently, like a bit of a struggle.
