Let alone the voters who chose them, usually, in a "least worst of two" electoral calculation. So, while I think you have mounted a very elegant defence of what is a profoundly silly position, I remain extremely sceptical of both the position and the motives of those who serve it out willy-nilly.

No. Because most politicians are a mixture of ineffectual and self-interested. They have as little to do with ideological values as cheese. Which means it makes little sense to condemn the in-name-only label as if they lived and applied those values and that is what failed.

... from a particular variety of "leftist" who spends all his energy fighting "liberals" online. It is displacement activity; a security blanket; an inane way of saying "this mess has nothing to do with me". But, in truth, it is destructive and sucks a huge amount of oxygen from *both* groups. 2/2

Don't you think that is *quite* an important distinction? Might the terms, say, "Democrat politicians" be a better descriptor, rather than indicting all voters? And that was really what my post was driving at. The charge of "liberals" not fighting fascism with enough resources rings hollow... 1/2

Wow. I have been busy, unbeknown to me.

Are "leftists" and "liberals" two groups that do not overlap? Did NO "liberals" do anything to stop it? Did "leftists" devote all their energy to stopping it? It seems to me that the word has become a rather wooly term, which vaguely signifies "people other than my group".
