Responding to tariffs isn’t just about defense—it’s about positioning Calgary to lead. Let’s build a city that works for business, for workers, and for the future.

Alberta’s #Budget2025 should have prepared for this. Instead, it overlooked Calgary’s rapid growth and failed to provide the investments we need to attract and retain talent, while pushing property taxes even higher .

We’re thriving in tech and innovation in agrifood, energy and financial services – I’ve seen and helped those companies grow. But resilience and innovation won’t be enough this time. We need leadership that invests in Calgary’s future - in housing, infrastructure and transit.

Calgary workers and business will take a direct hit in the face of tariffs. The Canadian Chamber reports that we will be the second hardest hit city in Canada, with our energy sector taking the hardest hit. Calgarians have been smart in the last decade. We’ve taken steps to diversify our economy.

But we also need to build up the foundations that make our city the best place to invest in, to do business in, to live in.
We need investment in the backbone basics of our city: transit, housing and infrastructure & we need to prioritize social equity in our response.

The tariff threat is going to hit Calgarian workers and businesses, while making it even harder for those who are already struggling to make ends meet. Calgarians have been smart in pursuing economic diversification - and more than ever that must continue to be a priority.

Our provincial government is committed to taxing Calgarians without providing corresponding investment back into our city. @thecalgaryparty.bsky.social is ready to address the imbalance.

. With the defeat of amendments to the Local Area Plans - this council voted: against housing, against affordability, and against Calgarians. If Council won't vote for LAPs that legalize transit oriented developments, then the Calgary Party will.
