When folks explain how genAI chatbots are useful, I'm often left wondering if they forgot that search engines exist.

I'm not naive—I get that there have always been people who do their jobs badly, including researchers who do research badly. But I wasn't prepared for the extent to which "AI" has emboldened people to proudly proclaim that their professional judgment is so deeply and fundamentally compromised

I don't even know how to access it and I will never learn. Do you go to a website? Download an app? Lick an electrical outlet? Don't know don't care

And recognize that setting boundaries isn't at odd with compassion and equity! Students will appreciate the clarity and models that you set forth, if you tell them what your communicative expectations are. #TYCAPNW

When you're feeling crappy and tired, be aware of how you might be emotionally impacted by the tone of a student's email or derailing query in class. Because the energy you use trying to name your feelings and mitigate your response is labor!

A fun introductory exercise Talbot uses in the first week of classes, "Send Me a Letter, Tell Me a Story." They have to talk about genre conventions for email/messages, but also share a story about themselves. I like it! And then they start talking about narrative structures the next week!
