Just 20% of NZ workers belong to a union
“Higher trade union density and collective agreement coverage is associated with higher wages and a more even distribution of incomes,” the umbrella union’s policy document reads.
“Collective bargaining is also associated with improved productivity,” it says.
A 2021 study of 26 European economies, published in the Industrial Relations Journal, found that the “likelihood of productivity increases is significantly (and robustly) higher for workplaces, which fall under a collective agreement”.
Wagstaff points out that one of the stated objectives of the Employment Relations Act is to promote collective bargaining, and acknowledging and addressing the inherent inequality of power in employment relationships, while also protecting the integrity of individual choice.

Pae Ora Bill's proposed changes undermine the NZ Disability Strategy
Efficiency shouldn’t come at the cost of outcomes. The Pae Ora Amendment Bill threatens accessibility, Māori partnerships, and the health of disabled New Zealanders. Here’s how.

Speaking of health, the proposed Pae Ora legislation changes actively undermine the actions for Health in the NZ Disability Strategy - which were apparently approved by the Minister of Health??

Providing care is expected of anyone deemed female.
Care work is clinically, technically, psychologically and energetically draining by most people who provide it.
Care work is chronicly understaffed, underpaid, for caregivers/RNs/Drs/whanau.
Care, will in time, become the new currency and value.

Sir Robert Martin and the way we view disabled people
Sir Robert Martin was a survivor of abuse in care who was integral in fighting for an inquiry. He passed away while waiting for redress and an apology.

Did you know Sir Robert Martin? Part of #Disability community in Aotearoa.
In 2019 Robert Martin was 1st person with learning disability in the world to be knighted. Friends held a press conference for journalists to meet Sir Robert. One turned up. One. 😢

Back office workers support front line delivery! Front line workers need support functions to do their jobs well! I'm so fucking sick of seeing this govt write off all back office work as "dumb stuff" #nzpol
